Extremely underrated game. At the time, there were few if any games with that type of gameplay. I always loved playing it.

I rented into from blockbuster like 10 times. Need to find a copy. That embassy level was so awesome

Greatest N64 game I gotta go with OoT.
Greatest Super Nintendo game? Donkey Kong.

think about how jaw dropping it was when you first saw Mario 64...however, you're right
OoT is the best with all context considered

It's one of the best but for me nothing is better than Puggsy on Sega Genesis.

Yes. I've always ranked it #1 IMO.
And the replay value is still pretty high. I find myself beating it from start to finish every few years or so. And it's still fun as hell.

This kind of turned into a greatest game on the N64 platform thread but the greatest game of all time is the Witcher 3 and it's not even close. It covers all the basis of a great game: story, combat, graphics, and tits.

It was definitely my favorite.

Goldeneye for me and it's not even close
It's just not the greatest game ever. Seriously go back and play it and it hasn't aged well. Mario 64 is every bit as enjoyable as it was in 96. And the game was totally mind blowing. I'll never forget running around the lawn of Peach's Castle for the first time. Goldeneye has nothing comparable to this and wasn't as revolutionary as you think. Go play Doom if you think it was.

Mark me down as stating Majoras Mask is the goat
It for sure stands the test of time
That and Dark Souls

It does, and MM is my favorite game of all time, but I don't think it's the greatest. It's simply amazing, but I think a "greatest" game needs to have some influence. Really no one has even tried to emulate Majora's Mask. It's a Top 50 game for sure, but it's lack of influence in the industry does hurt it.

A fair point. When typing out my post I considered the fact that no other game has gameplay mechanics similar to MM.
However I determined that was a positive: it is still completely unique almost twenty years later.
No one has even tried anything similar because MM would just embarass any attempts to replicate it.

I enjoyed super Mario RPG more than mario 64, personally.
However it's impossible to argue how much influence mario64 had on the entire video game industry. Clearly the most influential and ground breaking game of our generation

You're all wrong, Pilot Wings is the GOAT.
Posted on 11/30/16 at 12:28 am to GeorgeTheGreek
frick that. There are no less than 3 Metal Gear games that are better by far and even those are probably not the GOAT.

Mario 3 will always be better to me but I was more of that age. As a child there was no bigger hype for a game that I remember than SMB 3. It was in the movie the wizard and I remember when Toys R Us actually had it in stock, it retailed for over 70 dollars It was rented out at every video store we'd check at for months. It was almost bigger than a game.
