It's very easy to download a ROM of Earthbound and any other game for that matter.

Not always easy to find a lot of roms out there if we decide to go with some weird and whacky options, just kinda thinking of making it easier for more people to participate. More people that participate means the more likely this thing will last into the future. Not just thinking of the first game.

I'll participate if it is a game easily to obtain.

Do you ever think real book clubs sit around the table wondering if they can get a book or not? Haha.

"I can't read this because I don't want to pay for it and don't know how to get it."

"It's cool man, I have it on my e-book, let me get a .pdf of it for you."

I do know games are way way different.

While this is a great idea, I will probably never participate.

It's not money. I don't have a real computer. I'm sure it would work on my old laptop but never really done anything on it.

While I'm not a huge proponent of ROMs (I prefer playing on the original hardware), you would be surprised at the selection on main ROM sites. They have literally every 8-bit through 32-bit game that was released in North America and beyond. They even have fan hacks that you can't get physically unless you make a repro cart out of the ROM.

Check out this Final Fantasy VII NES fan hack.

I just beat earthbound, not that long ago. On Mother 3 now. Played Mother 1 before Earthbound as well (that one is pretty short). For those that don't know, Earthbound is called "Mother 2" in Japan. It's part of a trilogy, clearly. But, we only got part 2 over here (because we can't handle the truth, I reckon). There's a fanmade Mother 4 that supposed to be released, anytime now, as well.

Earthbound is a classic though. Definitely should be played by everyone in this thread. It's pretty lengthy though. People will definitely get into it and want to finish it.

There are a ton of hacks of this game as well, FWIW.

How far are you into Mother 3? I started it a while back but haven't finished it. I might be on chapter 4.

Assuming earthbound wins, should we give it 2 months to discuss since it's long?

I'm the monkey at the moment. Is that 3 or 4? I've picked it up and put it down quite a bit so far, so it's been quite the work in progress. They say it's the best of the three games though. I need to get back on it again, but here comes football season... Which brings up a good point, why wasn't this thread brought up in the spring/early summer?

I'm just past that part of the game. Are you playing on PC? I bought a GBA repro cart for $20.

Nah, a GBA emulator on a PSP.

The English translation version, I gather? Not too shabby.

Yeah, English translation. Etsy and Nintendoage have a ton of English reprise for all kinds of systems.

I have a PSP 1001 and have been wanting to do that..I just don't have the damn usb cord that you need. PSP emulation is the way to go.

had my psp 1001 modded since the GTA exploit back in 2006, it is literally the best portable gaming system i own (and i have the vita)

Being able to play anything from NES (Zelda, FF) to Snatcher on SegaCD or Super Metroid/GBA Metroid Fusion on the go is just insane.

Throw it that it natively plays PS1 games is just a plus. I remember pldaying FF7-9 on it years ago. Now I just own them on PSN so they play very nicely on my Vita and PSTV (got it for the kids to play minecraft)
