Hell just take 6 people's nominations. Put them on list. Once we finish those or half way through then we add more.

I like the idea of Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis,
I think just about everyone here could play them by way of Virtual Console or ROM.

I'm in but I have a feeling it'll just be another game that I know I should be playing while I play rocket league

Exactly. And from a legal standpoint, we don't want to publicize on Chicken's website that we are playing games that can still be found in the market but instead we are going out and finding ROMs. I think it's OK to play ROMs of games that are a certain age because they aren't out there anymore in retail or otherwise. And, really, it's basically our --gamers-- library. You want to go back and look at these creations...and ROMs make that possible.
So I think a few ground rules should be set up. Games can't be played if they fall before or after a certain date. Which is why I considered anything for the SNES and Genesis and earlier. I guess you could say Gameboy (original) too.
Another ground rule should be that we don't provide any links or help on how to get the emulators or games. If you're part of this then you are skilled enough to know how to get them.
Other than that, the world is open! I prefer choosing games conducive to keyboard. Not everyone has a controller, so they would have to add on that piece of hardware. And some of these games are really hard without a controller.

I'll 3rd Earthbound. I'm a huge RPG fan and have been since SNES/Genesis days but somehow Earthbound slipped passed me. I know all the fan-fare it gets and wanted to play it on a ROM one day but just alwasy ended up playing Chrono Trigger or FF6 a millionth time.
I have the Ouya on my TV in my bedroom which is a perfect setup for this (I got it for $70 at target and it plays everything up to dreamcast)

Well right now Earthbound is winning so I wouldn't worry about it. I really don't want to limit systems yet. I think as long as we vote and voice it then it will almost always be a game everyone can play. I doubt we will ever pick some random Dreamcast game that you can't find anymore.

I still vote for Zombies Ate My Neighbors.
Sales Pitch: I have a physical copy of it.

OK. Cool!
I am all for Earthbound. Never played. Always heard good things.
Now you gotta worry about the format of the book club and meetings.

I think we should just have an in game thread discussing it like we do every other new title.

My Vote: Earthbound
I never got to play it, and it seems freakishly awesome, so I'm in.
(This is my real vote, Galaxy 2 was a joke)

I assume everyone is talking about the SNES Earthbound and not the NES version?
Posted on 8/27/15 at 10:37 am to Mr Gardoki
quote:Probably so, since the NES Earthbound is called "Mother" in Japan and "Earthbound Beginnings" or "Earthbound Zero" here in the US.

Maybe we should make a "rule" that a nomination needs to include the system(s) the game is on?

Maybe have a book club dropbox to have our required reading more accessible would keep more people participating.
Keeping it limited to easy to run roms and even mame games would keep more people playing, would make the vote more interesting instead of more people just picking the game that is the only one widely accessible.

It's very easy to download a ROM of Earthbound and any other game for that matter. It's on the Virtual Console as well.
Obviously that's my vote, but I was thinking of this. Is there a way we could pick a certain number of games that we all agree on and "draw from a hat" and start playing? Not a literal hat of course, but surely there are basic randomizing apps or programs.
ETA: Sega Saturn emulators are pretty meh

This will go 20 pages before a game is settled on.

Cutting it off by the end of tomorrow.

I just looked and I still have my Earthbound ROM. Would love to do this with everyone but I know I'll never be able to keep up.
