Well I'll probably give MGS3 a try and if I still don't then I'll throw in the towel.
3 is definitely the best one to start with since it's the best overall game, imo, and it's the first game in the franchise's story, chronologically. It's still heavy on dialogue, though. That's just part of the series and might not be your cup of tea.

I don't buy many games, but the next one I plan to pick up is MGSV.

I'm not a big fan of games talking to me a lot. Some games are great like Last of Us but cut scenes are way overdone in most games if you ask me.

Was just about to comment on the fact that I just finished the final episode the Walking Dead season 2 from Tell Tale, but this seems like a bad time

I mostly agree with you, especially in regards to the Metal Gear series. There's a part in MGS4 where you can literally put the controller down for over an hour.

However, I'm so invested in the Metal Gear universe at this point, that I kind of don't mind. Don't get me wrong. I prefer *interactive* story telling in my video games over traditional cinema, but I'm on board at this point for any crazy thing Kojima wants to try.

I think Metal Gear may be a specific time and place series for many people. If you didn't jump on board early when we were just beginning to see the meshing of Hollywood-esque cinematics and video games, the appeal may be lost and the series impenetrable.

Very possible. When the series started on PS1 cut scenes were this amazing new thing.

Telltale games don't bother me. I like Tales from the Borderlands. I play it in 30 minutes pieces like TV. Those games are pretty honest with themselves about what they are though.

Agreed, two games that probably hooked me, an already full time gamer for life, in 1997/1998, were MGS and FF7.

Just playing both those games at release was something special. There was nothing like it at the time. Nostalgia probably plays a part in that. Though I am a big fan of Kojima in general as well, one of my favorite all-time games is Snatcher on Sega CD.

After getting to play the two seasons consecutively I may start waiting for every episode to be released for future series before I play them. I jumped back in to the Game of Thrones game and felt have the time trying to figure out WTF happened the last time I played.

One of my favorites. I'm just now finishing up with configuring a small emulation PC and have thought about playing through it again. It's probably been over a decade since I played through it.

I just beat the original Castlevania for the first time the other night. One of those NES games I rented but never owned and, therefore, never played much.

It holds up, the last time i played it was 2-3 years ago on a modded PSP. ALso check out the english patched Policenauts PSOne iso's if you want to play more of the story/style.

Flyau introduced me to eagle rare bourbon last weekend. He also introduced me to an eagle rare hangover.

Meh, I'm off today so it's still the weekend.

MGSV and Fallout 4. I *might* get Sword Coast Legends but I have a feeling it's going to disappoint.

Metal Gear's build-your-mother-base feature is huge.
