I'm getting this on PS4, haven't played any of the games. How is it, any RPG elements or upgrades or no nonsense action stealth fps?

Aside from some gunsmithing, no RPG elements.

The story is great, I have played it at least 5 times.

Great story, great gameplay, one of the few single player games I willingly replay. My biggest gripe is the filter system. I've been stuck in a checkpoint loop before because I was low on filters and could not find enough to take me to the next save.

Extremely underrated games, both of them. I personally love them and have logged a ton of hours on both the non-Redux and Redux versions. The Redux version basically revamps the entire first game. You also get 2 very different play modes with each game; one is hardcore survival where stealth and ammo conservation is an absolute must, the other is a more traditional action-oriented game. I recommend playing on Ranger mode, as well.

There are RPG elements, in a way. Actions you can take throughout the game lead to different endings. There's basically a karma system, and while the actions that play into the system can seem random (like plucking a guitar), you'll be notified that you've performed one with a buzzer sound and little flash of light. There are also upgrades in the form of modifications and attachments to your weapons.

The game has the best atmosphere of any game I've ever played. It also really makes the player feel like they're there; i.e. you have to manually charge your headlamp, change out gas filters on your gas mask, etc.

It's a pretty amazing game. Start out with Metro 2033, you can choose the more action-oriented play style for your first run through as it can be unforgiving, but do play it on Ranger mode. That way you know the story leading into Last Light. Pay attention to conversations and conserve your ammo.

On the Redux version? Were you playing Ranger Hardcore? I stick with Ranger normal and have never run out of filters, there's always enough lying around as long as you're not wasting them. Now, the original pre-redux versions, 2033 in particular, could be a real pain in the arse.

Yeah I did Ranger hardcore when I played redux since I'd played through both games twice before. It was a real bitch any time I went to the surface.

I have 88 hours in Metro 2033, 12 hours in Metro 2033 Redux, 122 hours in Metro: Last Light, and 39 hours in Metro: Last Light Redux and I've still never tried Ranger Hardcore.

I fully regretted it. The game is hard enough, no need to make it harder AND remove the friggin HUD.

Yeah, the complete lack of the HUD is the primary reason I stay away from it. The reduced HUD in normal Ranger mode is more than enough.
