Alright guys, I play a good bit of Xbox One but always liked Nintendo. I got burnt on the Wii U and it collects dust. Been debating the Switch especially since my daughter was born and I dont always want to go into my office/game room to play but given my job I have limited time to play.

Thoughts on a Switch from people who own it? Any regrets? Don't want to waste cash like I did with Wii U.

How were u burnt on Wii U? It had a great library. Much better than XBONE and PS4 in it's first 3yrs.

If you didn't like the lineup for WiiU than it will be the same for the Switch.

I am probably an outlier but I have loved my switch because I travel all the time. I also never have it in its dock. I often play sitting on the couch when the wife is watching something on TV etc. It's a great system and hopefully will open up to some more mature content.

I say burnt because I found my self not playing it that much and it gathering dust vs my Xbox where I had a lot of friends to play with.

You are right, it had some great games.

Thinking this may be a little different given portability factor for when we travel or when I'm hanging out with the newborn in living room or her room.

Haven't owned a Nintendo product since the N64 playing a good bit of Wii since. I pulled the trigger on the Switch almost due to Zelda alone, which would be worth it. Mario Kart is great. Splatoon is pretty fun. Odyssey coming out in a couple weeks looks incredible.

Seeing more and more 3rd party support as well so I'd say it's a buy for sure.

Splatoon 2
Zelda
Mario
Sonic

Mario kart won’t sell you if you’re burned out on Wii U.

Metroid in development

PS4 level 3rd party titles in the works

My problem with switch has been I have too much to play despite everyone criticizing the lineup at release. Buying it now, you start with a deep backlog depending on what type of gamer you are

Also the debate if I save the money and upgrade to Xbox One X.

If I do get a Switch, I plan on selling the whole Wii U system and games just not sure what it's worth. Kinda backed off playing a while back hence the older games.

32GB system with original box
Additional Wii Mote and Nunchuk

9-11 Games
Zelda Wind Waker (Installed on system, assuming it stays on when I clear my account?)

Wii Sports (On System)

Assassins Creed 3
Wii Party U
Super Mario Brothers U (w/Super Luegi U)
Zumba (Wife's)
Need For Speed Most Wanted U
Batman Arkham City
Tekken
Mario Kart 8
Pikmen 3

Any idea what I could get for that set?

Nintendo doing a horrible job explaining to the masses the WiiU was a completely new system and not some add on for the Wii and the quality of the system's library are two completely separate things.

Pretty sure it won't but isn't that the case for XBox and Playstation as well?

Originally, sure. People had an understanding pretty quickly and well into the life cycle of it, but still no one wanted it.

seriously, the WiiU failed due to two things:

1) Horrible, Horrible, Horrible Marketing
2) a gimmick on the controller that brought nothing to the table, and even when Nintendo tried to make something of it, it failed miserably:

-------

It was a pretty good system, but I have put more time individually into Splatoon 2 and Zelda on the switch, than I did the entire time I spent playing games on the WiiU. (115 total playtime on the WiiU - 125 Hours on Breath of the Wild, and 140 Hours on Splatoon 2) The portability can not be talked about enough.

ETA: I also expect to put over 100 Hours into Odyssey

We only have one game at this point (Pokken Tournament... whatever... it's what my kid wanted), but I play this thing in handlheld constantly. Like others said, I can play on the couch while I put on the TV for the wife to play in the background while she sits on her phone (it's not like she actually WATCHES whatever is on the tv, but for some reason she doesn't like me gaming as background noise).

Anyway, the handlheld nature of this is the selling point, and I can't wait to get some more in depth games that I like for it... though... with the amount I play Pokken already, it may take up a lot of my time.

I also will just grab the thing to take with me when I'm running my kids around and having downtime (waiting on them in the lobby at music and sports practice and such). My phone gets old, and the Switch is a lot more fun to play.

It's a nice compliment to the X1 (even though in another thread I mention not buying many X1 games anymore), and I think it's a superior system to the WiiU, with a library that will be better than the WiiU's whole library at about the 18 month mark.

Lots of varied games - Racing, Shooters, Adventure, Puzzle, etc. - mixed with a quickly growing indie catalog. The Nintendo bet was to court the occasional third party games - Fifa, Doom, Skyrim, etc. - and heavy indie support, to provide breadth as you wait for the 2-3 Nintendo games per quarter. As long as they can keep it up, they'll be fine.

I only have two real concerns with the Switch:
1. Where is VC and what is the strategy? The lack of VC is becoming a bigger and bigger hole. And their strategy alongside the classic is still murky. I want old Nintendo games on the Switch. Period. A failure to do that and the whole thing could fall apart.

2. Sunsetting of the 3DS. Their release schedule has been strong, but it's bound to slow down. People thought the Switch play was to get Nintendo down to supporting 1 system and making smaller market/smaller budget games that would have been made on the handheld on the Switch AND combine that with big releases. I think this is the only way the Switch is a 5-6 year console, but they haven't shown their hand of what it will look like going forward.

I don't see why they wouldn't do this. Combine both and get all your best guys working in a singular direction.

But then again Nintendo does WTF they want so who knows.

This is what I did. Sold mine for $250. I had close to the amount of games and add-ons.

Exactly

But it does wreak of the whole "3rd pillar" stuff. It could just take a little longer to play out. I think the 3DS will be supported through 2018. 2019 is looking like the year they slow down and start moving towards the Switch. Maybe. Nintendo is crazy
