Hello Games tweeted this morning that the studio’s space exploration game No Man’s Sky was “a mistake.” The tweet was later deleted and the studio’s account set to private, while emails purporting to be from studio founder Sean Murray claimed responsibility for the message.

quote:

“The tweet is from me, but somebody from the team took it down,” an email to Polygon from Murray’s account reads. “We have not been coping well.” Murray hasn’t responded to follow up emails, phone calls and texts and his formerly active personal Twitter account hadn’t been used since Aug. 18, until the following tweets were sent, nearly five hours after the deleted tweet:

quote:

Update: Forbes is reporting that they have spoken to a representative who verified that the tweet was sent from a “disgruntled employee.” Mashable is reporting that Sean Murray told them, “The tweet came from a disgruntled employee” and “We're currently trying to solve the issue internally.” We’ve updated this story throughout with new information, including Murray’s follow-up tweets.

Such a shame too. I was looking forward to checking it out and hoping it would be as bad arse as the trailer made it seem. Guess that's the way it goes sometimes.

Someone needs to find the no man's sky thread and bump it. I remember most guys saying that this game would last and Carson was saying it wouldn't

I'm sure you can find a post of mine from when this was released and I just didn't understand the hype. Call me skeptical but I was right about No MAn's Sky.

I've never played it but that's only because of the $60 price tag. The game would've been better received if the price was $40 or $20 and if they were honest about the game.

The lying ultimately lead to me not purchasing the game.

Thia game is a dumpster fire. It got released way too early, should've sold this version at $20 and then developed it to what was promised.

What didn't they deliver on? I remember people being really excited about the game.

Mr Gardoki: It's an interesting idea but I have no faith in the game
It really did seem too good to be true. I can understand the game not being as good as it appeared in the trailer. What I can't grasp is the outright lying that was done around features that appear to have never existed. Maybe this is the new standard? Instead of just showing a game looking better than it possibly can, now developers will also show and promise features that will never be implemented.

All of this has happened before, of course, but it is disappointing and has possibly ruined a game studio that clearly has a lot of talent, despite their small size.

Yikes. The last minute with the guy simply lying to everyone is pretty damning. And he's a fricking creep.

People taking credit for calling this game a bust and getting it right are on par with people taking credit for calling Johnny Manziel a bust and getting it right.

I feel like the only people assured of its success were akin to delusional Browns and Texas A&M fans.

I pump Sony first party games more than many, but I had my mouth shut on this one.

Until people stop pre-ordering like idiots, they will keep releasing broken games.
