Someone explain this to me. What are they? Should I care about these?

TD is my encyclopedia and trusted adviser.

Nothing important

Absolutely not.

It is my humble opinion that you should trade them all to me!

Seriously though, they are used to craft badges that provide XP to level up your user profile. It's pretty optional.

Dumb and another micro-transaction thing similar to TF2 hats.

Not unless you feel the desire to collect complete sets. iirc, you can get small discounts for completing sets, but it isn't worth it imo. You get cards from playing games, but you won't get a full set. In order to complete a set it will require trading with other steam users or buying them (yay useless micro-transactions).

A more in depth explanation. This is where I got all my info, but I just skimmed it, so I might have left a good bit out.

Ummmmm ok.

Steam has always been a single player world to me. I actually have zero friends on my steam account unfortunately which means bragging about my high rating means little at this point. :(

It may be best for me to just play and whatever shows up shows up and I don't worry about it.

You got it. The card drops happen as you play and aren't tied to achievements or anything. I'm thinking Valve is banking on people being OCD about completing sets even though it is totally unnecessary.

I just sell them on the steam market. I've probably saved about $10 this steam sale from them.

Born in Louisiana, but transplanted to Auburn at an early age. Attending Auburn, but grew up an LSU fan and they will always be my #1 team.

I was able to buy Burnout paradise only on steam cards.

The whole thing is kinda dumb, but hey every penny counts on steam.
