Why are the players in the normal 4 v 4 match so much better than the players that play the big team slayer, 8 vs 8 matchups?

I don't consider myself an elite player by any means, but I regularly do very well in the big team games, but I do frickin terrible in the 4 v 4 normal slayer matchups.

Players in general have less skill, less accuracy, less smarts, etc in the big team games than the 4 v 4.

Why do good players tend to favor the latter?

Just like in Destiny, the smaller lobbies require higher skill to succeed.

You have to win 1v1's to be any good in smaller lobbies. There is team shooting, but not nearly asmuch as there is in a 8v8 lobby.

It's very similar to why a lot of people in Destiny just played free-for-all for practice for Trials. Being able to win a 1v1 gun fight more than 50% of the time makes you better than like 80% of the player base.

I noticed this too playing MCC. To me it seems like the only people still playing it regularly are the players that were really good at those games and never learned to play halo 5 or didn't like it. I traded the game in and I play halo 5 almost every day. But halo in general has a much higher learning curve than CoD. To me it makes the player base smaller and there isn't tons and tons of players that play because you can't just sit in a corner and wait for someone to come around a corner. I like that aspect but I can see why a ton of people don't like going -10 for dozens of games until you get the hang of it. So the only people playing are the ones who figured it out. And it is even more magnified in MCC.
