Skyrim Follower Death Question

I had Fanedal following me and he died. I tried to get a new follower but they tell me that I already have someone following me. I go back to Fanedal's body and I can't talk to him to tell him to part ways I can only search his dead body.
Anyone have any idea how I can dismiss him even though I can't talk to him anymore?
I've tried going back to Riverwood but he won't re-spawn.

I've looked for the problem and haven't found it.
One tip I read stated that you should do the companion quests and when you get to the one where I think Vilkas joins you, that causes the old follower to be bumped away.

i just got the game and haven't had much experience with a follower, but could you raise it from the dead then talk to it?

Did that quest before he died. When/if I get another follower quest I'll try it again.

how do you raise things from the dead? my character isn't a big magic user. do i have to learn necromancy spells or something?

Yea there is a spell that can raise things from the dead for 60 seconds to fight for you. Doubt it would work anyway but it was just the first thing that came to me

As I said, head to whiterun and do some Companion Quests.
You can only have one follower at a time so any quest that makes you take along a follower, bumps the previous follower.

I know this doesn't help you, but this same bug got me on Fallout New Vegas. Kinda ruined the game for me not being able to have my followers and totally not worth redoing w/e 30+ hours of gameplay.

I've had this problem, and yeah it prevents you from having anyone follow you for awhile. However, I can personally attest to having a follower added for ANY quest will solve your problem.

ironically enough after i posted in this thread i ran into some crazy fire-ball throwing witch with long arse fingernails, bitch was tough as nails. she killed me several times and i didn't realize had killed lydia in the process. She was carrying tons of my shite.

I thought followers couldn't die. I've been using the same guy from Riverwood. Everytime he gets knocked out, he just stands up again after a short time period.

Lydia has still been beasting for me, even tho I set her on fire, eletrocute her, freeze her etc. I guess she will die for real one day.

giants are followers worst enemy. played for 20 mins one time before realizing lydia had been launched into orbit with a lot of cool items on her.
