ZombiU has some scary stuff in it.

It kind of plays like a typical zombie movie story arc in that way. Things start out really scary. You're barely able to survive. By the end, though, you're unleashing hell on the zombies and able to move around with confidence and some sense of non-fear.

Not gonna lie, The Witcher 3 Hearts of Stone expansion was pretty damn creepy. Gaunter O'Dimm was very unnerving and the whole segment with the haunted house was spooky.

Playing an Elder Scrolls game or Fallout game late at night with the volume down or headphones on. Especially dungeons and shite.

The originally Halo. The first time you see the flood. Halo one once the flood was introduced was scary as hell.

Overall I'm sure it's not, but for me it was the mission in State of Decay where you set off to find the little girls watch her father had given her at the initial camp spot in the game. I did it in the dark before I realized you could have people join you on missions. That and I was used to plowing zombies down in cars and with this mission I didn't have that luxury.

Another obscure one. Every time you hear a Gecko go "MOOOOOOO" in Metal Gear Solid 4.

Screw the rules.

Alien Isolation is tough to beat for horror and tension.

Try playing Doom 3 (the 2005 remake) with the sound up and the lights off.

Any of the Doom games played that way are creepy.

Dying Light scared the shite out of me.

Also, in the "not horror" category. I would crap my pants every time an animal attacked me in Far Cry 4 because I would be paying attention to other things and suddenly being mauled by a leopard.

I'm going back a ways, but Eternal Darkness on Gamecube. I never heard of the game before because I didn't own a cube. Friend brought it over one night for a sleepover. I didn't realize the screen and stuff went nuts when your character started getting freaked out. Tons on Mummy like creatures just appeared out of nowhere and bombard me and I got the game over screen. Except no button to Load anymore. Then, screen just went back like nothing happened.

The first time on Resident Evil 2 walking in the hallway with the boarded windows and a hand popped through.. I dropped my controller. We had the lights out and volume up and scared the poops out of us. it was awesome looking back on.

The original Doom on PC was the first game that ever scared me.

System Shock 2 was terrifying. I can still remember creeping around that damned ship with XERXES making announcements on the PA system. "Intruder in Medical Sector A. Intruder: why do you persist in your loneliness? Give in to the Many. Give in to the glory of the mass."

FEAR and FEAR 2 were both scary as shite. Absolutely phenomenal.

I'm playing through Outlast now. Probably the scariest game I've ever played.

This thread makes me sad that the "Silent Hills" game isn't happening. That P.T. demo was pretty hair raising. Until Dawn had some jump scares, but it's more cheesy than scary.

I've only played a bit of Outlast, but it definitely had me on edge. I need to play Dead Space.
