Sorry to be starting a thread an hour, but I posted about this in the music board and there is not much traffic in there.
I picked it up for $30 since I figured it could be a way to learning the fundamentals of guitar and having fun at the same time.
For those that don't know, it is like guitar hero except you use your own real guitar and plug into PC/console with a USB. Teaches you chords, songs etc.
I have had my guitar for years now but never made it over the hump into it being fun (aka where I know what I am doing and it sounds good). Has anyone used this? Is it fun? Will it help?

Yes. Yes. Yes. It's a fun way to learn songs and there are mini-games that work on techniques such as switching between chords and playing scales. I haven't put much effort into those but my playing has definitely improved and it'll help motivate you more to practice the boring stuff.

Good to hear! Last thing I needed is buying another game, but I view $30 as a good investment if it can get me practicing every day.

i've got it. lots of good songs and very detailed. i just haven't played it in awhile cause the library got stale. they too, like rock band, have a DLC library. pretty sweet. also, if you're interested in bass, there's an add-on pack for it as well.
reason i haven't played it in awhile is because i'm trying to learn some john mayer seeing how his music get the ladies juices flowing.

The version I got has the bass version as well. looking forward to it. All I have gotten is good feedback so far.

Tried playing it again tonight and realized how bad the on disc songs list was. You might want to check out the DLC available.
