Man this makes me want to play the far cry games I never did but this looks awesome and I'd like to play ...
Question: If I were to start playing these are the game linked together via a story or are each separate, would it really be worth my time to go back and play the others or just start at 3??

Don't need far cry 3 to play this game, it is standalone.
as far as Far Cry games go, I only played the 3rd in the series. Each game in the series has an independent storyline, as far as I can tell.
Apparently the second game showed promise, but it was set back by some shitty gameplay elements. Others could elaborate on that more, but that's all I know.
ETA: I meant that this game seemed like an april fools joke when it was first announced. The original blood dragon. And that shite is real, I own it.

Haven't finished it.
The setting and the games sense of humor have been worth the price of admission so far.
