Why do you have Wartortles in your Rain Dance deck?
Slowking is broken AF (was later banned), so you have to run wartortle

If you can't get Blastoise out by Turn 2 you are screwed anyway
Cleffa (and the other babies) make missing a t2 blastoise far more manageable

I tried getting into the modern card game but its different. You can't even use old cards because the HP/Attack powers are much higher. I played the Pokemon TCG Online.
It's all I play now, and it's great. Much more balanced than the brokenness of these old decks

Yeah I can't beat the 4th guy at the end so I'll start playing Crystal

you are right. Now that I think of it, I was basing my critique only on the original 151 cards(Base, Jungle, Fossil). I never ran Rain Dance past the time Team Rocket came out.
I made it really far in a tournament one time using a Jumpluff deck for shits & giggles.
Also there was one tournament I played in where the rules were Water Attacks do 2x damage, and I won it using a deck of Electric/Grass Pokemon to take advantage of the weakness.

Nice. I tried getting into Pokemon TCG online but it was just too confusing. Is this a game where you pretty much have to buy real life cards to get the cards you need, or can it be done without buying the cards in stores?

I played Pokemon TCG on a gameboy emulator awhile back. Was a lot of fun.

You can play the game without spending a dime, but the best thing to do is spend $10-20 on pack CODES and trade them for good cards to build a deck Or buy the cards you need

Which should I play next? Heart gold or Crystal?
Play Heartgold/Soulsilver next and move on up. The DS game trio of HG/SS, Platinum, and Black 2 are the highest tier of Pokemon games. Much better than Crystal. Frick nostalgia and frick Gen 1 panderers. Gen 4 and 5 >>> Gen 1 IMHO.
If you want a challenge you can emulate hacked versions of Heartgold and Black2. I highly recommend these:
Sacred Gold & Storm Silver
Blaze Black 2 & Volt White 2 (has a challenge mode which is recommended as well)
The gyms become quite challenging with higher level Pokemon, better Pokemon roster, good movesets and strategies. You're gonna get rekt plenty of times in these games.

Playing through yellow at the moment. The games are so much harder when you try to be disciplined and train you pokemon relatively equally rather than just having one giant unbeatable badass.
Yellow and crystal were my favs

Was there ever a green version that came out with the originals or was that a myth?

IIRC the original games in Japan were Red and Green instead of Red and blue

i made a completely "geology" deck recently in my Blue Version.
But I forgot that I needed another gameboy and cable and cartridge to get my graveller to a golem.
But the team would be
Onyx
Golem
Venusaur
Aerodactyl
Cloyster
Omastar
Could take every pokemon lineup.

Beat Red/Gold/Silver, but never further than that. Too many new Pokemon.

Just watched Gunnermaniac fall short on a WR pace on Yellow. Was gonna shatter it. Hit the 14 percent Gyarados crit Hydro Pump in the elite four. God that was hard to watch.

Crystal is my favorite video game ever. I usually play through it at least once a year. My elite 4 team:
Lapras
Raikou
Scyther
Arcanine
Espeon
Donphan

Just beat Blue version. Big props to lvl 50+ Charizard and Articuno, Ice Beam FTW!!!
Can't believe how much fun that was, trainers weren't that hard at the end however. Does anyone have a recommendation for a version that's more challenging.

I found that the games got easier from there, but I haven't played anything since diamond. If you haven't played second generation before then I'd definitely play crystal. They improved on literally every aspect of the game from first to second gen

Just got my behind handed to me by the first of the elite 4.. Her water /ice team all 50+ I think. Been breezing through with my team and had two strong types to her but 48 Raichu and 44 Vileplume couldn't finish off that Lapras.. Might have to get a couple of my Poke's to level 50 before attempting again; my strongest is Kadabra 49.

Well just knocked out Fire Red; bout to start Soul Silver since that seems to be highly agreed upon as pretty awesome

Is soul silver on the freeroms website? I don't see it

Had to download another emulator; a ds one from that same link someone already provided here and that video I think gives you a link to more roms for that system
