You should be able to get 4.0 without having to change any voltages. Once you rma and get that new mobo you'll probably do a lot better.

How high of voltages do you get in prime95?

Haven't run it yet, after 2 hours of messing with the mobo and then another 3 messing with setting I was tired of messing with it, I got things stable and said frick it. I will stress test it tomorrow and see what I get.

Passing a couple hours prime is pretty important for testing stability. I was running fine at 4.5, but it wouldn't pass prime so I knocked it back down to 4.4 and it ran fine with no fails after a 3 hour test

I couldn't even get past the benchmark for this thread with any other settings, but at 4 I have been gaming including Metro which I run at the highest settings.

Thank you, but same build, just overclocked some stuff. I think I am done for now since everything I play is at max.

I could only get to 4ghz and keep it stable, I'm guessing it's because of my mobo or my power supply. A few people have gotten it as high a 5.7.

Every cpu is different. Some can get a 2600k to insanely high numbers. I was only able to get mine up to 4.3. It's a bit of a crap shoot. It has more to do with the individual cpu than the motherboard. The motherboard is just the vessel. How high you can OC is cpu dependent.

The motherboard is a huge deal in OCing. Why do you think people go towards the Z77 boards so much more than the Z68 or other boards? The power phase and mosfets(sp?) are big in determining how high and how much power your cpu gets

Yeah, though my z68 Asus has excellent OC settings and adjustments for CPU current.

2600k is a crapshoot. I have one of the better 2600ks but not the best. Most of them hit a wall at 4.5 where the vcore requirements are beyond what air cooling can handle. My I'm more than happy with 5.0 at 1.5v. My chip can do 5.5 at 1.6-ish volts and max at 75c but keeping vcore at that level is stupid. 1.5 is crazy in the eyes of many people as well, but I have an excellent cooling setup. 4.8ghz really is where you hit the point of no real additional benefits, at least in gaming.

I bet if I crank it up to 5.5 and bench again, I'll get another 75 points at best.

It is but if you get a cpu that will only go to 4.3 it doesn't matter what MB you use. The cpu is the final limiter and as I said it's a bit of a crap shoot. I've been through Tom's, OC.com, etc, etc, etc. and that is the view on those sites which is where most of the hardcore OC guys hang out.

Obviuosly the cpu is the final factor, but if someone can only get to 4.3 on a crap mobo, that doesn't mean its the cpu thats a crapshot, it could very well be the mobo thats bottlenecking the whole process

How about a 200 dollar Asus mobo with broken pins. Lol
It makes an awesome paperweight

I have a used asetek lclc as a "prize." it's the oem equivalent of a corsair h50. It works, don't know how well it cools. Maybe a little better than a stock cooler.

I also have an old socket 775 board with bent pins.

Just snagged a nice ole gtx 680 off of eBay to test out, and hopefully snagging a deal on a 3770k. I'm going to try to run it again after I get those 2 bad boys
