I have no idea how much $ I've put into League, but the $10 here and there I'm sure has added up to a fair amount

I've probably put about $500 across both accounts. I hadn't spent much until I decided to make my first account my main. Buying all of those XP boosts added up. Not to mention having to get most all of the skins I already had on the other account again. Plus I bought every champion bundle to make myself more flexible in ranked.

Veigar/item question. In the Viegar build it states he has one of the best combos in the game.
Deathfire Grasp is an item, how do I use it? Isn't it just an active? I don't get how I'm supposed to use it.

Renek rengar and Graves are all viable. Practice last hitting in bot games to get used to a champ's auto attack animation. Grab ignite if you can't finish off people.

I fricking hate Riot. Last game of my promo series and I get stuck with a Bronze 4 Hecarim because some douchebag Silver 2 is trying to carry him where he doesn't belong. He starts fricking DORANS BLADE and rushes HYDRA on Hecarim. Needless to say I didn't get a single gank. Neither did bot. Completely fair if you ask me. Let's go ahead and put a Bronze 4 player 50 games under .500 in a Silver 4 promo.

Sona's poke is so strong early game if you do it right. It's pretty ridiculous. Especially so if you build any AP at all.
Honestly, I would start with 2 sight wards, 1 vision, faerie's charm, 2 health pots. I take the explorer's ward though, so I get that extra one to put down early for free. That mana regen is crucial, IMO.
