People who complain so much about the gamepad are just looking for something to complain about imo, because they are mad about other things with the Wii U, lack of power, 3rd party support, Nintendo's own 1st party release schedule, etc. These are all valid problems.

Dude, no. I complain about the Wii U gamepad because I fricking hated it, not because I am looking for something else to complain about. So your "opinion" is wrong. I had no problems with the lack of power, or games released on it. Yes, it would have been great if they had more games but for me it was my secondary system. So I just got it for the few games I wanted to play on it. (Mario Kart, 3D world, Zelda WW)

And to the other guy, I did get the pro controller. Still doesn't change the fact that the gamepad sucked to me and a lot of other people, when it was supposed to be some key part of the system.

I'm not saying it isn't a bad controller, but the hate and vitriol it receives are really unbalanced.

Like why is it THIS bad? Just the size? Other than the size and maybe the battery life, all buttons are where they need to be. and I've noticed no detriment to playing a game like Bayonetta, Splatoon or Smash which require precise button combinations and controls.

Functionally, is there really an issue with it?

Pretty much for me, yes. When I play games, I tend to play for a long time so comfort matters to me. I just did not like it.

Everyone has their own opinions though. Take for example, a lot of people disliked the Playstation controllers for the past generations. I never had any problem with it. I think people with large hands have a problem with it.

Just to be clear though, I liked my U, it didn't get much time after I got bored with Mario Kart but I liked it. And I did buy the pro controller, so I didn't have to use the gamepad.

Did you ever try Rayman or Nintendoland or Wonderful 101, those games that require it? Or was it just too much to deal with so you didn't?

No the joystick placement is terrible too. I don't care for the triggers either but it may just be because of the awkward size.

Really? I don't feel this way at all. The controller is a bit too big to hold for really long game sessions, but nothing that I would describe as bad and the touchscreen, when used properly, is worth what's being sacrificed in comfort.

I don't think the Wii U's power is the problem either, unless we are talking about in regards to the system receiving barely any current gen, multi-platform titles.

And if the rumors are true that the system will be a sort of home console / portable console hybrid system, it will need to have a touch screen to either have backwards compatibility with DS games or Wii U games. Given Nintendo's (over?)reliance on their existing IP's, I find it hard to believe they wouldn't design a system that would allow them to resell the old games from those previous dual-screened platforms.

I love my WiiU and the tablet controller. I can play most games on it whole the wife watches TV, and it adds cool shite when playing on the TV.

The wiiu gets entirely too much undeserved hate on this board. It's not a massive performance driven machine, but Nintendo has never been about that.

The WiiU is my favorite console in a while and I'll get the NX before I get a xbone.

Smash Bros
Mario Kart
Mario World
Wind Waker
Shovel Knight
Xenoblade
Wonderful 101
Splatoon

All very relaxing and interesting and fun games to play for 5 mins or 5 hours. That's why I love Nintendo. It's very relaxing and fun.

I've never finished playing Halo or COD or Battlefield and felt relaxed. Those games amp me up and make me what to rip someone's head off. I can't play them anymore.

I had Nintendoland and Pikmin. I didn't care for Nintendoland and I changed the controls away from the touch screen stylus control in pikmin after a few hours.

Gimmicky things like this will never be my cup of tea. I just like a standard controller.

Other things I will never care for in my gaming consoles.

Motion Controls
VR
Voice Controls

Since like when? Since the first Wii? Because I grew up in a time when Nintendo consoles were all really powerful at the time of release.

That is a list of good games. Bold are all games I owned and enjoyed. Screw that gamepad though.

Yeah no one is arguing that at all.

There are plenty of valid criticisms against the WiiU and Nintendo's approach and marketing. Plenty. It's a market failure of a system. That doesn't make it a bad system.

The only top line Nintendo Consoles that were more powerful were the NES and SNES. (And that's if you don't count the Jaguar, TG-16 and Neo Geo, which you really should for this argument).

In terms of Power:

Gameboy < Lynx
Gameboy Advanced < Game Gear
N64 < PS (this one is sort of a push, but technically the PS was superior)
Gamecube < Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox
DS < PS Portable
Wii < PS3, Xbox 360
3DS < Vita
WiiU < PS4, Xbox One

Handhelds are not consoles. And what you listed is not even true.

N64 was more powerful than the PS.

Gamecube was more powerful then the PS2 and Dreamcast. Xbox was the most powerful of that gen though. Pretty well known that PS2 couldn't hold up power wise to the Xbox or Gamecube.

I don't even know what you are arguing anyways? Because it is a fact that Nintendo from a power standpoint has been at the top or near the top in all generations except for the Wii gen for consoles.

I wasn't trying to even say that they were the best, although they were a good bit. Was just saying it certainly used to be their MO.
