I was in the market for a new tablet and after a good bit of research settled on the nvidia shield tablet BC of the amazing specs and tegra k1 chip and the claim that it received android updates in the first rollouts much like nexus devices.

I saw it had a console type controller and was being marketed as a tablet for gamers.

Holy crap...this is by far the best tablet I've ever seen and its way better than I even imagined. It came with trine2 and I saw that it could run portal and half life 2...and it does flawlessly...it blows me away that these graphics are coming off an android tablet... It is unreal.

Then I saw that it has access to the nvdia grid services...I cannot believe it but I'm playing PC games streamed with a controller...full fledged PC games.

Not to mention that with a mini HDMI cable I can plug it into a TV and run it in "console mode" that runs in 1080p and can output 4k.

Incredible device,... Anyone have one of these? This is the coolest piece of tech I think I've ever purchased...brand new from Amazon for $230.(had a coupon code for $20)

I was just looking for the fastest android tablet and this thing is in a league of its own

I think a few people have the handheld console from a couple years back, not sure about the tablet. But yeah, another bullet point in the list of PC gaming perks. I don't have one personally, but I'm sure once I've purchased a gsync monitor and 100% cemented myself into buying NVIDIA GPUs for the long haul, I'll end up with a shield tablet one of these days, probably next gen.

You can also use it with nvidias game stream if you have the appropriate nvidia graphics card in your PC.

I had considered getting one, but I just built an htpc instead.

Does it just stream or run them natively?

I have 3 tablets right now. All are AT&T 4G ready. Long story as to why but I may sell them all and get a Shield.

If you don't have an nvidia card, make sure you get one so you can use its full potential

It has a good bit of games that are optimized for this chipset on android and run natively like half life 2 portal...trine 2...etc then u can also stream full fledged PC games from nvidia's cloud streaming service called grid ...Netflix for PC games...free till at least June atm

And if I had a nvdia video card I could stream any PC games I owned to this thing.

This is an amazing piece of tech

Right now I'm streaming borderlands just to try it out and it feels looks and plays like I'm playing on a high end PC.

do you have to buy these games again or can you use your steam library?

If you have them in your steam library and have the appropriate nvidia GPU, you can stream them to the device.

Im not too familiar with nvidia grid though, so I can't comment on that.

I believe Grid is a short list of games on NVIDIA's cloud, so you can stream from the internet when you aren't on your own local network.

Correct...atm 40 titles...most all AAA titles ...batman origins, both. borderlands..Alan wake..gta San Andreas...etc...and until at least June...all free.

They also have a selection u can buy and load on the tablet..so u wouldn't need Internet to play them

Woah, this thing looks awesome.

So for this streaming thing...do you need to have a PC that is on to play the games? Can you stream steam games? What if there's a game I like to play that is ONLY an android/iphone app, can I play that on this?

Treat me like someone who got lost on their way to the Outdoor board.

You need to have a PC with an NVidia card, model GTX 650 or newer.

It's an Android tablet with a Tegra K1, so yeah. Google Play Store is your playground. Even if you don't have a gaming PC with an NVIDIA card, it's a pretty great tablet on its own.

For 200 I might get one, the controller would be worthless but I can USB a M/KB. I have nVidia cards so I am good there, not sure how much I would use it though. In what instances would I use this vs firing up my computer?
