Now that the new has firmly worn off, what's your final take on Dark Souls 2?

I LOVED Dark Souls. But I never pulled the trigger on DS2. As the hype wore down, I heard a lot of grumblings on it being too easy and Dark Souls being better. My question is is it still worth a purchase? I have no issue loading up Dark Souls and doing new things. I can still get my kicks in that way. But other than it just being a new game, is Dark Souls 2 worth getting if I'm still enjoying Dark Souls?

On PC it's wonderful. On console it's not.

I haven't finished it yet but that's more of a me thing
That said, DS2 was a very good game and most definitely worth a purchase. I don't understand why hating on it became the cool thing. I guess b/c people expected the exact same thing as Dark Souls and it wasn't maybe? It's still Dark Souls if that makes sense. Like you know you're playing a Souls game.
I really enjoyed it and recommend giving it a shot

I played it on 360 and it was just fine
What are the differences between the two platforms in regards to the game?

Yes, it's great, I put over 200 hours into it and the multiplayer is phenomenal.

I played half an hour of it and some rats stole my lunch money. Whenever we do get to try the co-op, I'll need some major help.

Dark souls 2 is a great game. I preferred the story and level design in dark souls, but DS2 was very good still.

Awesome as awesome can get.
Although, for some reason it doesnt have that vast, mysterious feel as much as Dark Souls did.

Good game. Not nearly as good as Dark or Demon.

I played it first on 360 as well, and thought it was fine. It took me a little while to adjust to what I was used to in DS. Movement seemed slower, everything seemed heavier. To be honest I did not like the game for the first month or so. But I fought through it and learned to fall in love with all the new mechanics, and gameplay... On the 360!
And then I bought a PC, and the difference was immediately noticeable. I have since tried to play on 360, but cannot do it. The PC version, for me, is the definitive Dark Souls 2. Graphically, mechanically, just everything. It is a smoother ride, and feels closer to what DS was for me originally.

A boring chore of a game with terrible bossfights, uninspiring story, and a forgettable environment.

There's our resident DS2 hater...right on time

I've played both Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2. I love the second one. I put hundreds of hours into the game. I also loved the first one and I would say the first one is a little bit better, but Dark Souls 2 is still a great game. With out a doubt Dark Souls 2 is worth the purchase.

Its a fun game. It doesn't have the same atmosphere or depth of Dark Souls and the world feels a bit linear, but it was a blast to play.

It's worth a buy during a Steam sale but I doubt you like it as much as DS1.
DS1 = Ocarina of Time, a masterpiece directed by the master.
DS2 = Majora's Mask, worth a play, but inferior, not directed by the master. If you believe it is better than its predecessor, I do not value your opinions on video games.

I've heard wonderful things about the DLC. Had a friend tell me that with the DLC, it's their favorite Souls game. I would probably wait until the GOTY/Remaster edition launches to buy.

I don't think anyone is saying it's better. But just because it's not the best doesn't mean it sucks, as some have made it out to be.
Living up the og Dark Souls was virtually impossible with the cult following it had

The DLC was insane hard and made the game really jump up in my favorite column. I still think DS1 was a better game "overall" - but DS1 was also my first souls game and by the time 2 rolled around I had dropped over 100 hours into DS1, so there wasn't going to be the same surprises to me as 1 had, had.
DLC really made DS2 much much better though, that is correct

See, but for me DS gets somewhat boring after the first 1/2. After Anor Lando/Painted World, the rest of the game is kinda meh. You face what, 3 versions of the Asylum demon? Bed of Chaos is a fricking infuriating joke. And the level design for the later areas doesn't even come close to the firs half of the game. DS2 seemed to get better and more interesting as the game went on.
And even as I say that, DS is still probably my favorite video game of all time.
EDIT: I would be remiss not to mention the DLC content of DS1, which contained 3 of the best boss fights in all of gaming.

It's definitely worth the time, but I'd wait until Scholar of the First Sin drops to buy it, so you can get all of the DLCs included. It's a great game that gets a lot of shite by some fans because it didn't meet their pre-conceived notions of what a Souls game should be. I have my gripes with it: bland locations that lack detail, some uninspired boss fights - but that can be applied to Dark Souls as well. Some people forget Lost Izalith or most of the boss fights in Dark Souls - some of which are straight-up reskins of bosses, enemies in Demon's Souls.
