No Man's Sky
Posted by OMFGKenny on 1/7/15 at 11:31 pm00
No Man's Sky is Sean Murray's indie,PS4 exclusive, space project. do you think it's going to be the next GOTY or the next Destiny?
For those who don't know about it:
Basically it's a game that is infinite. Everything is made by algorithms. The main goals are flying around space and exploring, upgrading your ships, killing aliens, and finding out the reason why there is a giant black hole in the center of all the galaxies.

No Man's Sky is a procedurally generated open universe game. Players take the role of a planetary explorer with a spacecraft, allowing them to explore the surface of numerous planets and interact with the flora and fauna, and take to space, engaging in combat with hostile forces and travel to other planets. Planets and other features of this universe are procedurally generated; though initially built based on a 32-bit number processor, the final game will use a 64-bit seeding key, with the developers stating that this allows for more than 18 quintillion possible planets.

Discovered this about a month ago and am still blown away with it. It's an incredible looking game and I can't wait to get my hands on it. I don't see it dropping until mid-2015 or later though.
One thing I did read recently though is if the game does well that the developers will add the ability to build bases on certain planets that you want to come back to.

It's right up there with the most anticipated games of the year for sure.

It's hard to believe that small team can pull it off honestly. It's also hard to tell what it is exactly still.

This is my big fear with it. It sort of feels like a Destiny where they may bite off more than they can chew, without the absurd budget Bungie had to work with.
It looks great, but I am just gonna remain cautiously optimistic until they release more about it.

This game sounds an awful lot like a destiny clone with a different storyline

anytime you have a developer spouting off about endless exploration or total freedom, my bullshite alarm starts going haywire.
I've been burned too many times.

I get the doubts but this game is nothing like destiny besides the fact that it is ambitious.
This is an exploration and discovery game.
Not a FPS/RPG. The gameplay looks nothing like Destiny.

This.
The concept of deep space exploration, combined with the apparent ability to go from walking on a planet's surface, to boarding a ship, to flying that ship out of one planet's atmosphere, into space, and then entering another planet's atmosphere, landing, and getting out and walking around - all without any load or cut screens - is something that will make be buy a PS4 if actually works.

Have you seen trailers? Besides maybe some small similarities (space and alien worlds) the game seems vastly different.
At the same time, I do worry about the Skyrim problem with infinite worlds/quests. There is no way to keep things fresh and new.

I was stoked for this after seeing them reveal it at E3 last year. Not many people talked about it right after, glad to see it getting some attention now.

I dont get the hype for this game at all. I understand the idea of a free roam galaxy to explore is tantalizing to some but, I've been watching the development of this game for a year now and still dont have a firm grasp of what the gameplay will be like. The only thing that has been shown is a few environments and a few clips of ships shooting at each other.

I'm just excited for a truly endless explorer game. I thought it was going to be a destiny type clone until I saw the video of Sean explaining the algorithms.
