You coincidentally discovered the negative AD exploit on the gateway website by mistake. You decided to put a negative bid on an item without a buyout the same day everyone was exploiting it for profit. You found a bug that has been in the game since closed beta, at approximately the same time all 3 servers were rampant with people exploiting it. The same time the method went public. Your next thought was to do it a few more times.
Yeah, that sounds legit.
communication made it clear that "beta" is just an excuse for bugs and exploits, and not the real development status of the game.
I believe they call it beta because there are still a few things missing, such as the expanded pvp, raidingm, classes and expanded classes.
Beta doesn't mean you should break the game and exploit it if you can. This isn't a test build you are not testers.
Similar to how google call a lot of their products beta, it just means its not really feature complete, not that google mail users for instance are just testing their product.
There is also the terms and conditions that do state quite clearly that "you agree not to take any of the following actions" "Using or exploiting any bugs, errors, or design flaws to obtain unauthorized access to the Service or to gain an unfair advantage over other players"
So while the OP says he was testing, I find it hard to believe he didn't know full well what he was doing. OP was banned, and a ban he deserved.

All characters that have been created before 5AM Pacific on Sunday, May 19, 2013, will receive the Caturday Survivor’s Pack, which will appear in your in-game mail as an attachment to the message, “You Survived!” The items within the Caturday Survivor’s Pack are bound to each character that receives it.
A friend of mine still has 2.3 billion AD, and his account untouched. He was using the exploit before it went mainstream.
The above mentioned 2.3 billion AD is spread into 12 accounts. As of now, only 1 account was banned.
He already made over $8.000 selling to gold farming sites.
He's goiing to keep a rest, and when the surplus of AD from the gold sellers drops, he will sell to them again.
Although I'm pretty sure the goldsellers already have an infinite amount of AD on their hands.
My experience with the AD/AH bug:
Went on the AH, noticed a few strange bids for negative ammounts and decided to dig through the interwebs to find out what was happening.
Found a thread on the official forums where someone mentioned the gateway and tried placing a bid for -1000 AD.
This resulted in 1000 AD transferred to my account followed by a good laugh.
Woke up the next day to find my entire account permanently banned.
This kinda makes me lose trust in how this company is prioritizing considering the fact that all those 1000 diamonds were lost in the rollback while there are people out there who made thousands of dollars selling billions of diamonds to third-party websites.
quote:my biggest issue is that the economy is retarded, and that has nothing to do with the exploit
Between the server being down all saturday and then the game being down all sunday due to this bull shite im losing interest in this semi-abortion fast though.
how many different kinds of currency are there? gold, astral diamonds, zen, 3-4 kinds of seals? bars? pvp tokens? zone specific drops? Astral/Celestial coins?
It's sad because they did really well with gameplay/combat and professions seem interesting enough.
yea, that's a big complaint of mine. it's just too much. wtf do the seals, bars, celestial coins, etc do?
