Making a pc for about $1000 + a monitor. I want something atleast 20 inches and no more than $250.

Any suggestions from a fellow member of the master race?

I'll vouch for his suggestion. Best bang for the buck you'll find. I love mine.

Ive got a buddy that says Asus has had problems in the past with dead pixels and a bad policy about it. Any validity to that?

What's the difference in the VE248Q you linked and the VE248H on Amazon? It's $20 cheaper.

If you just want an inexpensive 23" 1080p monitor you can't go wrong with this Acer IMO. I used it as a primary for 5 or 6 months with no issues. I only got rid of it to get two matching monitors that had vesa mounts.

You can go IPS for that kind of money. A while back I got a Dell 24" S2440L which is a VA panel (has some qualities of IPS, better than TN panel IMO). It was a steal when I got it ($199) off newegg. They have some 23" IPS now for that kind of money, when I was looking, almost all IPS were $250+ (for 23"+). The S2340L is $139 with the $50 off promo code on Newegg right now. I would jump on that, it's dirt cheap.

Bought a refurbished dell 21.5 ($130) last year. Runs like a champ.

Link is to a brand new one. I've used dell monitors in both business and gaming settings and have always been happy with them.

I bought one of these LINK / (LG) a few months ago and it's pretty nice. I got it on sale around $120 and used ShopDiscover for a nice helping of cash back.
