Thought you guys would like this

This revelation will put EA and Maxis in a difficult position. They’ve been adamant all along that the game won’t work without a server connection and offloads a “significant amount of the calculations.” That’s clearly not true, so why has it been used as a reason to explain why an always-connected game was necessary?

This is honestly the most BS move in a series of BS moves. I won't play the game. I never would have, if we're being honest. But it's just absurd. Until EA can provide WIFI or partner with someone that provides ubiquitous WIFI, they really can't justify this. It only hurts the consumer.

I'll still buy their products that appeal to me. I'll still hate their crap and complain about how every game that appealed to me inevitably got turned into a massive turd because of some stupid feature.

Not me. I've pretty much written them off.

How? They are so friggin' pervasive that I can't understand this position. I don't fault it. Do you not play any sports game? I just kinda feel like EA is a not-so-necessary evil at this point.

I'll try a new Mass Effect and Dragon Age. I want to play a GOOD NCAA football game. Plus other franchises they own. I just think it'd be hard to say no EA whatsoever.

Pretty much no. I haven't owned a NCAA since '09. The games are terrible in my opinion.

Not even gonna give it a try unless reviews are "greatest game ever"-esque. And I mean user reviews. The gaming news sites will give it a 10/10 just for being Mass Effect.

I'm not hating on anyone who buys their games. I'm just personally done with them. There are plenty of other game developers out there that put out better games than EA.

Plus, I don't really play any online MP games anymore. I'm partial to RPGs, action/adventure.

I actually didnt buy it I traded some other games for it.

I do agree with everything, though. I think BF4 will be good, but I'm not counting on it. EA knows they can put out a shite game and still make money off the hype from BF3

Exactly. I'm gonna call it now. BF will drop to CoD's level. Games will be released quickly and the product value with plummet.

Excellent. EA can't help but bury themselves in crap over and over.

Hell, just admit the always on connection is their choice of copy protection but lying about "calculations" and then getting busted for it, Priceless.

The problem is that the game is set up to be played with group of friends or randoms...its one of the dumb reasons for limiting the size of the playable maps to 2KM. You will get things like power and other resources from neighboring towns created by your friends or others.

IF you cut out the internet completely how will that happen? Am I missing something?

ETA:

not to mention 95% of you if not more will be on a desktop hardwired PC. Who the frick cares if you have to connect to the internet. I don't want to say im ok with what EA did, but come on.

Oh ok...I honestly didn't know. I was unaware you could create the town that your other town is getting resources from.

no it isnt.

the city tile size is limited to the glassbox engine, which uses A SINGLE frickING THREAD to simulate every in game "agent". multi threads are only used to deliver sound effects, music, etc.

If there is an EA game that interests me, I pirate it. Avoid stupid shite like this as well as withholding support from a terrible company.

I have not pirated an EA game in years. Their shite is so bad its not even worth "free".
