My buddy just convinced me to pick this game up a couple of nights ago. Started with an archer and then rolled another toon (didn't really like the cat guy I made) as a Marauder.

I've enjoyed chopping things in the face much more than shooting them full of arrows. To be fair though, I only got the archer to 6 or so and the marauder is 6 or 7.

I'm assuming to change classes, all I have to do is go to the class guild and join up? Hopefully it doesn't make me go through all the damn cut scenes and stuff like creating a whole new toon does, that shite is getting old fast. I haven't found a way to skip through cut scenes that are basically the same as others I've seen, so if there is a way to do that someone let me know.

I know that my sample size is extremely small right now, but the fighting seems to be a bit slower paced than a lot of new MMO's and I'm really liking it. I actually feel like there could be use for having a partner/group to grind with which is great because I may try and convince the wife to play. It's still very early, but I'm enjoying it so far. I created on toon on Mateus (I think that's the server) since my buddy's server wasn't available at creation.

I may read through the thread some to try and pick up some tips and tricks, but 60 something pages is a lot to read, so if you guys have any input on need to know things, help a guy out!

all you have to do is change your weapon to the weapon of the class:

switch to holding a sword - you become a gladiator
switch to holding a staff - you become a conjurer

I know you don't play with a controller, but on controller all I have to do is double tap the B button (the back button, so maybe esc?) twice and it brings up a skip option, and all I have to do is click on "skip" and it skips the CS.

Yes, this is a big part of a SE MMO, grouping up and having fun in groups..

A lot of us are already on Hyperion, and more of us are transferring over when we get a chance.. and a lot of us have friends who are coming over to Hyperion as well, you are welcome to join us

Just ask, and we can answer no need to try and read through 60 pages

Good to know that there is an option for it. I actually started out using a controller. I wanted to try and give it a fair shot but I really feel like my reactions are too slow with the controller. I'm sure this is 95% related to not being comfortable with the layout yet, but we'll see. I may try it again soon just because it's something different.

It looks like the server transfer system should be up any time now, the site says "mid-september" but it also seems to be a paid for service. Since I'm still nice and new to the game and my character I may just re-roll on you guys' server if I can convince my friend to roll up a toon on a 3rd server. Of course with my luck, Hyperion will be closed off when I try and create my toon tonight

a lot of people do not believe it'll be a paid service for the first time, since the servers had such problems and overfilled so fast. Most people are thinking it'll be offered for the first time for free, because of those problems.

Playing as another race didn't add to the experience. In fact, it was annoying how he would throw his pelvis out at people, sleep like a 3 year old, and ride a goobbue like it's story time.

And that tail...........

I think I've got the wife convinced to try it out with me...of the base classes you can choose (I've only done archer/marauder so far) which would lead more towards a healer role? She tends to do pretty well with that play style.

arcanist or conjurer.. either will do, and both are fun.

Conj. is a straight WHM by the end (the "job" you unlock with conj IS whm)

and arcanist becomes a scholar, and you can actually summon a pixie to help heal with you, and you can nuke a little on the side as well.

(you get to nuke a little with conjurer as well.. but probably not at the same level as arcanist can)

Conjurer is your normal healer role. Arcanist gets heals later on, but it's a bit different than your normal healer role. Best thing is that you can do both!

fricking archer casting cure, protect, and raise makes me a one man wrecking ball. I am the hero Eorzea deserves.

You don't have access to all of your cross class skills once you get your job. Be careful...
