THAT is why vanilla WoW was better than any other version. You actually got to know a lot of people on your server and you didn't have nearly as many of the "one wipe and I'm gone" frickfaces that you have today. It took time to get a dungeon group going so once you did, if someone was struggling with a mechanic of the game, you helped them learn it. You didn't just say "frick this, I'm out" and queue up for another group. Vanilla (because people took the time to help others learn) made better all around players out of EVERYONE.

The Southshore/Tarren Mill PvP before the honor system came out was some of the most fun I've ever had.

Yes it was. That and hours long Alterac Valley battles that you had to actually use strategy to win rather than just zerging the bases.

I remember this one warrior alliance player that was so bad arse in Alterac Valley battles because he had a team of two healers on him constantly. Nobody could kill him. He hated me because I would mind control him with my priest and move him out of range of his healers up into the middle of a group of horde players and they would slaughter him in seconds. Up until I started doing that, he was the most feared player on the server.

I think it was Invictus, the guild that constructed from the remains of Sinister.

I was in Sinister for like a month. I couldn't keep up with that insane raid schedule.

This is pretty funny, because that's what it is. I played AV not too long ago, and each faction just runs past each other at the middle to see who can kill the leader faster.

The factions just literally run right past each other, I can see them just giving a nod or short wave and move on. I remember meeting in the middle and it being a blood bath a long time ago. Things just change.

People were preparing AV to farm the exalted rep...exalted with stormpike is really important for gear and hours long matches is terrible for the rep grind

I'd be all over an official Blizzard sanctioned vanilla and/or Burning Crusade server with modern class balance and DF/RF.

These were literally the beginning of the end of classic WoW IMO. They killed the server communities and social aspect that made the older versions so great. Don't get me wrong, it sucked on the nights that you couldn't find a healer in a 60 mile radius who wanted to do a quick Emperor run, tribute run, etc., but the rest of the time it was pretty dang fun to scrap together some people and make the long trek out to somewhere like ST, Strat, DM, or BRS.

It felt...more like a real adventure and less like a hassle stopping you from getting to raid. The dungeons and questing/leveling were just as fun and important (if not moreso) than raiding back in those days.

True. The raid gear back then really wasn't that much better than the blue gear you got from dungeons. Epic gear was more of a "badge of honor" than it was as an actual "upgrade". In many cases, the blue gear was actually better.

Hell I was doing BWL in blue gear as a priest and was outhealing many epic geared priests. I actually had cleared BWL before I ever cleared MC because the guild I joined specifically recruited me as a healer for their BWL raids. My first epic piece of gear was the Transcendence set bracers off the first boss in BWL.

The only reason I ever went back to do MC was my guild helped me get my Benediction/Anathema.

I'm still friends with about a dozen former guildies, IRL from my vanilla/BC days on Whisperwind. I keep up with them via text and Facebook. You know you've been out of the game a long time when you know their real names, but can't remember their characters. The best ones, you remember both.

Another example of this, and someone mentioned the AV rep, was that the blue crossbow from AV was better than almost every weapon in Tier 1 for hunters. I remember getting that until I finished the hunter quest for Rhok'delar.

I remember chat being littered with dungeon groups looking for more members (now it's just a bunch of trolls in between their LFG queues) and hoofing it across the world to meet up for the dungeons/raids. I get a little triggered when people complain about Blizzard not putting flying into some areas, or when they threatened to not put in the zone at all.. the old school player in me tells them to suck it up.

I too am friends with a lot of my old guild mates I played with. Some still play, but others moved on to play other games.

Just PVP'ing a decent bit at the moment.
