Picked up the complete edition or whatever they call it over the holidays and just started. I really like it so far. Great graphics and gameplay, but the credits after every mission and 2 hour intro was kind of annoying. I've done ground zeros and moved on to PP. I just got to mother base for the first time (mission 2). Just seeing if there are any tips or things I should know going forward. The play area seems frickin huge.

The intro is enough to make you want to kill yourself

It was pretty bad, but then I got to Afghan and it turned open world and it's pretty awesome now.

Don't sweat maxing out your mother base. I think me farming for resources kind of soured me on the game by the halfway mark. It's entirely possible to complete the game without building any struts except the ones the game provides automatically.
Every once in a while, you'll get soldiers on your base with "TROUBLE MAKER" in their description. Just remove them. There is a way to mitigate them, but you'll have to micro-manage your forces late in the game. If you just remove them, you don't have to micro-manage.
The game will encourage you to build a FOB. You can ignore it and complete the game without missing out on anything. But, it's up to you. Just know it takes a considerable amount of resources to build one. You could build up to four, but it'll take months of farming to do it.
Focus on certain upgrades based on your gameplay. If you're trying to play stealthy, then save your resources for the tranq pistol, tranq sniper rifle, and silencers. HAM mode would be lethal varients, grenade launchers, etc. Unless you want to farm for hours, you'll run out of resources and GMP trying to upgrade everything during the course of your first play-through and get a little frustrated.
Side ops = Recommend avoiding side ops involving taking out armored vehicles or tanks until you get Cargo +2 for your Fulton.
DO NOT WEAR SNEAKING SUIT. You're easily spotted by the enemy. Wear appropriate camo for the environment and learn to crouch walk slowly if you're worried about foot steps. You'd be surprised how close you can get to the enemy while crawling wearing the right camo. You stick out like a sore thumb in the sneaking suit.
Learn how to roll effectively.
Highly recommend to always pick ASAP for a mission time EXCEPT Mission 14. Do that one at 1800. It just helps vary your gameplay, but that's just me.
Use your buddies.
(Very slight spoiler below)
Deployment ops = When this becomes available, you can send DD soldiers out on missions in which they sabotage Soviet equipment. For instance, if you see a lot of Russians wearing helmets, you can do a deployment op where your soldiers destroy the distribution of those helmets. When they do, fewer Russians will be wearing helmets for the next 3 missions you do. The same holds true for body armor, NVGs, claymore mines, shotguns, and flashlights that the enemy deploys. Use your team to your advantage to reduce enemy capabilities.
(Bigger spoiler below)
When side op 51 pops up, do it. You'll get something for it. There's a secret on mother base regarding what you received. Don't want to spoil it beyond that.

Started a week or so ago too. MGS has always been my favorite series.
Not sure how much I like the open world gameplay. I think I may have liked how the older games were structured better. But this one's still not bad by any means.

I personally prefer open world games. The recent Rockstar games are some of my favorite (GTA5 and RDR). Also am a fan of Skyrim and FO4. I don't mind a grinding a little bit, but I'm not going to do it for months like the poster above you said.

Just started playing too. Only thing that sucks so far is the damn credits.

I thought MGS5 was terrible. Like, I was so disappointed in that game.

I need to get back into this.

I really enjoyed it for what it was. I wish it had been finished and had a proper conclusion. It would probably be my favorite MGS game.

I preferred earlier entries. What it did, it did well, but plot lines suffer when open world is a focus.
they didn't develop any of the villains well and snake was a damn mute. I was expecting more from a game that was supposed to detail big boss' descent into being the "villain"

Chapter 2 might piss you off trying to unlock the rest of the missions. Episode 46 can go 69 a grizzly bear.

I will just say one thing. The sneaking suit works very well at night. The sneaking suit muffles your footsteps + as long as you stay out of the light, you can sneak up on anyone. Liberally mark your targets so you can see them around corners and through walls.

Then you end up doing every mission at night. Game suffers from lack of variety as it is, but to each his own.

Damn it
SPOILERS
For some reason I had an insane amount of trouble beating Salenthropus. I'd always prone leap... not far enough and get killed by the laser haha. I finally found a ledge to hide behind/leap over to hide from the laser. Spent like 15 tries and was legitimately happy I was "done" with the game. I've found the game pretty enjoyable. I switched it from Witcher 3 (the battle mechanics of that game were horrible imo)

I have this but I ended up losing interest after I couldn't really where the story was going or if there even was one. I literally just kept doing random missions without much of an end result.

I'm actually getting there. Go here, sneak around and extract this thing/person. I have more fun in free roam just sniping people and extracting resources.
