Does anyone else hate it when people say this? Especially when it's a team game and they're terrible at it?

Like it's a mortal sin to want to win a game.

Depends on the context. Some people take this shite too seriously.

I'm talking standard competitiveness and desire to win. Nothing crazy

Not going on tilt, yelling and being toxic to everyone.

"Hey, we should have done A instead of B"
"Chill, it's just a game"

Drives me insane. I play to have fun, but at the same time, I play to win. Not troll or half arse it and ruin the experience for everyone else.

I'm big on games that require team play and a group effort to win. I like having teammates. Just irks me when everyone plays properly (or at least attempts to) and some other individual decides to troll or not give a shite, then tell everyone to calm down, it's just a game.

Ah, I see.

Difficult not to do in team based games.

Clans, teams, friends, or guilds solve the problem

In Everquest I could find 72 people to join with, in WoW I could find 40, can't FPS players find less than 10?

crews plays a MOBA, so it's basically 95% toxic and 5% super competitive.

EQ and WoW are social games.

Most FPS games these days do nothing to encourage teamwork. Most players are only worried about their kill/death ratio/epeen.

I dunno, I played FPS games for years and years before MOBA's even showed up on the scene.

FPS by far lends itself to lone wolves and people who care only for KDA.

At least in MOBA's you MUST be reliant on your team to some degree.

I tend to avoid games that have a big competitive scene, because I don't have the patience, skill, or time. So my multiplayer activity consists of shooters like COD, and if I hear someone taking COD seriously, there's no response more appropriate than mocking laughter.

Was talking with my friend about how awesome Ocarina of Time is and my ex said "How can you get so emotionally involved in that? It's just a video game". Notice I said she's my ex. In that context, whoever is asking it is a twat.

I don't play shooters or other overly competitively-driven games, but as long as you don't tie your own sense of self-worth and value to a game then I don't see the problem. Those that say "it's just a game" are largely those that see games as a counter-productive waste of time.

I find it much easier to get emotionally involved in a single player game with a good story than some random mp match.

Yes, people constantly try to justify how bad they are.

Games with ELO based rankings are the worst. No one is ever responsible for being where they are in the rankings, it's always someone else's fault.
