I'll give the benefit of the doubt to hardware limitations, but it was nevertheless a free roaming top down with linearity subtlely snuck in there.

Considering when it came out it was mind blowing. Perhaps you would like some useless side quests? It also want linear. You can beat the dungeons out of order.

I don't think this game is hyped all that much outside of Nintendo circles. The reason is because so few people own a Wii U and also because the Zelda formula is so stale.

Ocarina of Time was revolutionary on the N64 because it was one of the very first 3D open world games. The Zelda franchise in general became huge because it was one of the first games to just drop you in the middle of a landscape to go explore.

Open world games are a dime a proven these days with titles like Elder Scrolls proving much of the same sensation once found in Zelda titles without the rigid structure.

Every Zelda since OoT has been almost the exact same game in terms of both mechanics and structure.

The Wii U Zelda is trying new things, but I feel like it's a case of wait and see for most.

I actually agree with you. I'm more a fan of the Miyamoto Zelda games honestly. They have tried new things since but I'm never crazy about them anymore. I think this game is on the radar for Wii U owners, all 10 of them, but that's about it.
