As an amendum, it really frustrates me that games I want to play are held hostage by Sony just so they can stroke their own cock. The business might make sense but don't even pretend it's not anti consumer. Sony not having backwards compatibility for PS3 is anti-consumer. Sony not supporting EA Access is anti-consumer. Sony not allowing mods in Skyrim/Fallout 4 is anti-consumer. The PS4Pro is anti-consumer.


Exclusives are not anti-consumer at all. They are a hook to get people to buy a certain platform. Otherwise you just gravitate to the most powerful system. People like to feel rewarded for their purchase. Being able to play good games that are only available on their platform of choice is a way they can feel that way.

These days consoles are essentially tiny PCs that do nothing aside from play games. There used to be distinct differences between platforms. Even third party games looked and in some cases played quite differently depending on if you played the game on Sega or Nintendo, N64 or Playstation.

My point is I appreciate that Microsoft went away from this by allowing companies to release games wherever they want for the most part. Microsoft never owned Bungie and never tried.

There would be enough of a difference that visual sacrifices would have had to have been made and/or the resolution would have to be lower on Xbox One. Part of the appeal of exclusives is that they can really take advantage of a single system's hardware as opposed to having to balance performance on multiple platforms.

Given how each console has had various games that run oh so slightly different on one or the other, I highly doubt it.

don't take Microsoft not having exclusives as a admittance that they just didn't "like" the idea of it... it is simply something that corporate didn't want them doing anymore. Corporate wanted Win10 to be a big deal, so now most of the "exclusives" are also on Win10 - that's the only reason.

and Microsoft views this as a win/win - they still get money and don't have to worry about making any hardware (which is a pretty big cost on their part most of the time) - and they actually get YOU to build it for them!

ETA: which once again is the REAL reason Microsoft basically told the xbox department "you are going to get rid of this 'only on xbox' crap this cycle"
