I bought it years ago and have yet to play it.

I don't know anything about it besides remembering everyone saying how linear it was.

Good story?

Worth a play?

I think I played for 5-6 hours before I had the first clue what was going on with the story. It just kind of drops you in the world without pretense.

It's a beautiful game for PS3, but it really is incredibly linear. There is no overworld or towns. It's mostly just walking forward for 30 hours. The game world does open up towards the end in one part in particular, but that's about it.

Overall I remember it being very "meh" except for the battle system, which grew on me and turned out to be very fun towards the end, at least for boss battles.

Had some of the worst FF characters ever, but did have some great cinematics.

I lost interest in it right after starting and I've had no motivation to pick it back up.

The battle system is awesome. Great new take making turned base feel fresh and fast.

Story is pretty meh bc of the high concept stuff that is barely explained.

After 10, there is no reason to care about final fantasy. Square lost their way after that.

If you hate linear games avoid at all costs.

I thought the thread was about FF15.

FF13 had the absolute worst cast of characters with the #1 worst character ever created in Hope.

Terrible. I kept waiting for it to get good and it never did. Don't waste your time.

It's extremely linear until the final 1/4 of the game, at which point it explodes into a ridiculously large world with a ton of things to do.

The story is terrible. Most of the characters are bland.

The graphics are pretty solid.

IMO, the combat is awesome. One of the best iterations in the series. But I know a lot of people don't agree with that, I think it is just me. I really like it though.

I liked it mainly for the combat system.

The only truth you should take away from this thread is that the game is linear and divisive. Neither are negative, just facts.

(I loved the series)

I hated it. It is extremely linear, and when I finally got to the point where it was no longer linear I was too under-leveled to defeat any mobs.

I might pick it back up again to see if I have a different experience now, but I just came away feeling like they didn't give me enough opportunity to prepare my characters for the non-linear portion of the game.

ETA: Even the most linear Final Fantasy games usually give you the opportunity to farm a little to level up your characters. I never felt like I had that opportunity with FF13. That ruined the game for me.

I was like the majority at first. Then I got it cheap on steam and gave it another shot and enjoyed it.

It is a linear as 10. Both games open up twords the end but 13 is more open. Though linear...like 10 both have wonderful places you visit and solid soundtracks for each.

Character development isn't the best and to understand the story you need to read some of the journal logs but it isn't bad. Kind of like every final fantasy as in the govt leads the people to believe one thing that isn't the truth and you must fix it.

Combat is smooth and fun. You do actually have to plan for certain bosses and enemies while mobs can just be mowed through quickly with some class builds and that okay for grinding.

I went from giving it a 5-6/10 to an 8.5/10 after I get off my FF high horse.

Grinding was no different from 10. Fight mobs in liner places. Open up to a larger area which is even larger than 10 and presents more mobs and hunts.

Depends on what you want. As a FF game it is TERRIBLE. Lacking in narrative and development of characters. Gameplay is a mixed bag. Way too linear, which is the normal complaint. If you can overlook that to find the grind, you'll be happy. Battle system is the best it has been since FF7. Totally mixed bag. Probably err on the side of not good, but not devoid of value. Just depends on if you can tolerate a handful of characters (like Hope). frick Hope.

I liked the positives.

I've played extensively and multiple times. Hope is a little bitch. Lighting is a stubborn c u n t. Everyone else is OK (except Snow who is Mr Hero). The characters will annoy the piss out of you. It's a fun, linear, beautiful game though.

Took me so long to get to these games in my back log.
Loved the Paradigm system on of the best Ff creations IMO.
Hope almost made me stop playing the game though.
Vanile Literally made him bearable.
One of my favorite characters of any ff btw is Vanile.
Story is what I was expecting of a later day Final Fantasy to be but wasnt that bad.
Fun game Overall recommend playing all three games though.
ff 13 13-2 and lightning returns.
