I was half way through my first play of ME2 before I knew to watch the side radar for missions and resources.

I played the entire first run if Mass Effect without knowing about Biotics or whatever. Literally only used guns.

I made it to Skellige before realizing there was an upgrade tab in the menu in The Witcher 3. I must have had 25-30 points to distribute.

I'm ~50 hours into Horizon Zero Dawn and I still don't think I know how to properly play the game.

I finished Last of Us before i knew you could use the "listen" mechanic to see enemies through walls.

Would have been a major help

Playing Destiny 2, and I realized when I shoot a Legionary Shield in the middle it shrinks it. This is after 30+ hours of gameplay.

I didn't know you could land on the surface of random planets in Mass Effect 1.

In EA's Star Wars Battlefront I didn't know how to lock on to enemy ships in fighter assault for the first 20 or so hours of play.

Played through about half of Dark Souls not knowing you could slide down ladders. They never tell you in the game or in the manual or anything.

I used to watch Dark Souls streamers on twitch and told a bunch of them about the ladder slide.

For YEARS I was using the arrow keys in FPS games instead of WASD.

Same for me with the lock mechanic on the ground.

I beat Aladdin for SNES without knowing he could glide using a sheet or whatever it was instead of falling. It’s beatable with regular running and jumping apparently

Once I figured that out I could beat the whole game in like 45 minutes

I probably had the Last Word in destiny 1 for a month before I found it was full-auto. It wasn't listed on the perk tree and it was a hidden perk.

I'll never forget the first time I ever equipped it in a PvP match and was like, "why do people like this gun?"

I didn't learn to craft potions and use magic, in Skyrim, until I was around level 74.

I played almost completely through State of Decay before I realized you could bring people with you when leaving your base. The game became so much easier after that realization

I did the mission where you go back to find the little girls watch up at the cabin solo, at night. Truly terrifying.
