Well boys the pc is up and running. I will upload pictures when I get the chance. Right now I am running updates, drivers, etc... Now I know why blu builds a new one once a month...
re: First Build tomorrowPosted by DoUrden on 3/2/13 at 9:20 pm to Mr Gardoki
Gratz It's addictive as hell.
i have put drives and stuff in my computer, but after looking at the pictures of many of your builds(peeps on here), i am lost.
water cooled fans n the such????
cutting the frame of the case, for fans???
looks like it's complicated as hell. And do you really need a water cooled fan???

I was short 1 cable today so I went and picked one up at best buy cause I didn't want to have to wait to order it. They raped me for $20 for a SATA 2 cable.

I haven't even touched water cooling sound complicated as hell, it's not needed to run today's games though, it's more of a luxury, imo.

Aw that sucks. I have those lying around my house like they're couch pennies.
Though at one point I was out of them, and I knew what best buy charged, so I called computer evolutions and asked what they'd charge me. The guy said "uh, I can just give you one. We have a box full."

Yea I knew it was ridiculous but I didn't want to have to wait to be done with the inside of it.

It is not too bad anymore, it use to be pretty terrible as you had to basically do a custom build each time. Making the tubing etc...
Now with closed loop coolers from Corsair ETC, hardest part is just mounting the radiator to the top of the case.
Only real advantage if you are not overclocking is trying to count down on noise, but the installation now is simple.

Corsair cooler =/= water cooling.
I have a full custom loop and case I'm trying to get rid of right... its incredibly awesome to WC, but I'm going back to mATX

Going back to mATX?
IMO mATX and ATX are just like having the same form factor. iTX is where it is at if they had enough good boards.
Blue, check out the SM5s or new iTX cases from Caselabs. Having the SM8, I cant see ever getting another case.. water or not.
ETA:
SOOOOOO MUCH WANT IN THE SM3 iTX Caselabs...

It isn't needed but it really quites your rig down. You can barely hear anything when putting 4Vs to each fan. Plus.. it is awesome and cool.

Holy hell, save packing and receipt to return.

I'm not going ITX since I'm limited to one PCI slot. mATX has up to 4 PCI slots so I can xfire.
If ITX had xfire capabilities I'd be all over it, but I'm going with mATX since I've already done ATX and ITX

Yea, understand.
Check out the 2011 socket RoG board for 199 and a SM5.
Would make a good pair. I have a 240 Alphacool Full Copper Low Profile RAD I'll send to you for free. I changed it out for a 360. Washed it up to clean out dust and thing looks brand new. Have the box and mounting screws.
So if you add another block, just let me know and you can have the 240 if interested.

I'm going back to the i5
I took a good chunk of my money from this pst build I just sold to pay off my rent for the rest of the school year, so I'm sitting on about $1200 or so now.
I'm going back to the 3570k and xfire 7950s. I wanted to go to the 8350, but all the mATX boards looked like shite

WTF man! Never downgrade.. lol
So back to 7950s from a 7970? Will you still WC or straight air again? You are right about mATX being shtt for AM3+. I have a cheap MSI 880 mATX in the GFs PC and the board sucks at OCing. You can OC the CPU but that is it. Don't touch the RAM, FSB or stepping. I wanted to buy a new board for her in the iTX or mATX form factor but nothing was good enough. All seemed like parallels or downgrading. AMD really only has decent boards in full ATX form factors. Very sad.. As for the 8350, very impressive and I would purchase over a 3570K for gaming/computing but straight gaming, i've seen a lot of benches going back in forth with those 2 chips, so think it a trade off there.
re: First Build tomorrowPosted by bluebarracuda on 3/3/13 at 3:59 am to LSU Coyote
I'm downgrading the processor (doesn't make much difference for gaming) but I'm upping my video cards from a single 7970 to two 7950s.
About the cooling... I'm getting two of THESE and keeping them air cooled. I'm getting the swiftech H220 for the CPU whenever it comes out (should be any day now).
The fractal Design Arc Mini only has room for a 240 rad up top and a 240 rad in the front, but I wouldn't have any room for a pump/res and HDD/SSD. I'd have to remove the HDD bays to fit a rad up front, but I couldn't use the 5.25" bays for the HDDs bc that's where the pump and rad would go. I'm just going to stick with the H220 since it'll be awesome on the CPU, and I won't need to do any OC'ing to the 7950s unless I'm benching. A guy on Reddit outscored everyone with 7970s/680s in sli/xfire with his 2 gigabyte 7950s. HERE, his name is psikeiro and mine is purpleparrots225. The scores are sorted by highest performance video score (to try and take out the CPU, since this is for video card benchmarking).

Yea those new customizable Swiftechs are really all the rave right now. If you want a "custom closed/open" loop, get that. Really nice coolers, by the looks of them. They have much better pumps than Corsair.
How is the Reddit community for PC enthusiast? I stay away from Reddit just because it is usually a 16y/o troll fest.
ETA: I want to bench my Titans to shoot for the top. They will scale much better than Quad SLi and modded BIOS are already appearing.

/r/gamingpc is actually hardcore.
They ban people left and right on there. If you say anything false, or spout shite without providing any source or evidence you will get banned. It's the enthusiast subreddit.
But don't dare post a build with sli/xfire and no X79. You will get hazed with shite about why no X79 etc etc

Blue what is your 7970, it isn't a lightning huh? I'm looking for a used lightning for my 2nd build but trying to get one for around 400 is hard.
