It's ok to be linear, just as long as it doesn't restrict your sense of freedom. If you are always walking along a narrow path to your goal, then you lose that feeling of freedom and feel that you're playing a forced narrative.
Uncharted 4 was mostly linear, but the large areas with multiple routes gave a sense of scale and freedom to most areas.
Just let me grind, work on side quests, etc. whenever I want and I won't have any complaints. That was my issue with 13. I couldn't really focus on building my team up since we were constantly fragmented throughout the story.

Yes. I do think the fatigue is setting in but it takes years to see those effects in games

This too. You can be linear and not feel so restricted.

Beat the game tonight.
Took 41 hours. Probably 25 of those were spent in chapters 1-3.
Don't care what anyone says. I loved it. Were there glaring holes in the plot? Sure, but I knew more than enough to know what was going on throughout the story.
Ending gave me the feels. Looking forward to endgame.

Nice! That's what I want to hear. Just give me feels again.

Too bad only one of them are Bros. It really does show the difference between asian and American cultures

*MINOR SPOILERS* (maybe?)
Any one else feel a strong similarity between Aranea and Celes (FF6).. actually the whole thing with the magitek soldiers and daemons is kinda similar to the circumstances of the magitek and espers of 6.. it's things like this actually that rings FF nostalgia for me and makes me feel like it fits well in the "final fantasy realm" as people have said it doesn't feel like a final fantasy but a lot of the elements they used really makes me feel the opposite.

Just finished the game, did a hell of a lot of side missions so finished at level 49. How the hell do I get the game to go back so I can just roam again?

Not sure what you're on, but apparently I need a dozen hits of it.
Just recently finished chapter 13. Not exactly my idea of a good time. This game borrows heavily from FF VI wirh some of its ideas and still manages to whiff epically on the storytelling.
Didn't mean to single you out specifically, but this game is not even remotely close to squares best work.

Chapter 13 made me want to kill mysef but it was worth it. By far the best game I've played in 2016.
You're being picky. Nothing else.

Chapter 13 took me nearly 4 hours, but I didn't hate it. I understood it to be what a trial of sorts and made my way through it.

Got to chapter 2 last night...
This game, so far, feels like if CD Projekt Red made a JRPG... and I mean it in a good way.

What are your thoughts on the combat?

Yeah I'm 12 in and haven't beat chapter 3 yet, level 20 though.
Really liking this game, Final Fantasy is fun again.

at first I was unsure, but I definitely like it more than ff13's combat. I do wish it was a bit more like KH's - but the way it's put out there makes it a bit more strategic instead of action based...
so long story short - the verdict is still out on it, but I'm enjoying it more and more as time goes on

I like it and I hate it. Can get way too chaotic and the camera angles just get awful at times.
And I'm a fan of 13's combat. Looking forward to a possible re-release this year.

I get so frustrated when trying to fight a group of enemies anywhere near trees.

I've rarely had issues with that camera.
