Never played it. Thinking of getting it. Does it play more like starcraft or commandos? Also should i get 1 or 2?

The first one was pretty badass in single player, I never got into online with it much though.

I need people to do the co-op mode with. It is impossible to solo.

No, there is a separate co-op mode introduced in the later expansions (Valor?). You have to build up bases to withstand either allied/axis forces assaulting and can be done with up to four players.
