Simple. ask if she'd rather have you playing games or out at the bar every night after work like every man used to do. if she says yes, find a friends house to go play at.

If youre taking up the living room tv every night to play and cutting her out of the main living space then youre a dick.

Mancave.

Be smart and stay single, you don't need a piece of paper to tell you you're happy, and a divorce will cost you at least 7K if kids are involved and you have any desire to get equal time. watch out for common law.

I tell every girl i meet up front.. not first line but before things go anywhere. I game a lot and im gona play with your feet. cant handle it? wasting time. compromise is for things that come up after the relationship starts, not things that are out in the open from the beginning.

ETA:: relevant i guess.

My wife never had a problem with my gaming, as soon as I told her I was leaving she started sneaking trying to make videos of me raging at DotA. all of a sudden it was some huge concern that she had for years and an excuse for her behavior that led to the separation. be careful.

Also relevant. I caught her planning an affair with the leader of my gaming community I had been apart of for 5 years. Don't get your girl into gaming unless you want to become a stalker and play whatever she plays and keep tabs. it's no different than letting her go to the bar on her own, just giving other people the open opportunity, only they get to do it with the anonymity of the internet.

Yeah. It's not immediate (and it's different between men and women for sure), but eventually they're your kid, not your adopted kid.

ETA It especially takes a while if you have a biological child already.

I have my pc set up in the TV room. My wife watches TV while I play games. Happily married 22 years.

Probably nothing... Considering he wasn't responding to the OP.

If I play too much my GF will say something. Which is fine with me, because in those moments I AM playing too much.

If I played an hour or two a night with an occasional marathon she won't say anything.

I feel like I'm a bit deeper in this hobby than most here and I manage relationship and hobby pretty well (wife with young child).

I don't put games before her but games have always been important. It was an understood idea that it was my hobby and that trying to get rid of games was getting rid of part of what made me who I was. While my identity isn't solely in that, it has been a part of life.

Edit: Really, as long as I spend time with her, it never becomes a problem. I can count of one hand the time she's gotten mad at me gaming in ~10 years.

The only annoyance I've had is that she'll force me to stop playing "scary" games when she's in the room. Just means it took me longer to beat Dead Space and Evil Within.

Married for 9 years with 2 young children. As long as you put wife and kids ahead of gaming it won't be a problem. It also helps if you get your wife into a game. My wife has put in over 200 hours and is at level 202 in Dark Souls 3. She has me beat, I'm at level 122. But that's the only game she plays, I play several others.

Been daiting my girlfriend for six years now, originally she wasn't fond of it but over time has been eased into it. She really hates shooters because she says they're hard to watch so I try to play those while she's out. Otherwise if it's a pretty good story she doesn't mind watching me play, also got her into gaming by using a 3DS. Dual sticks was the biggest hurdle but after she got the hang of that she's enjoyed it a lot more, to the point where it's hard to get time in on the Switch because every time I get home she's on it.
