I thought, and I had hoped, that Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed II would give Desmond the abilities and the knowledge to fight the Knight's Templar in the present in a fully present day Assassin's Creed III story.
By Assassin's Creed III I had become more interested in Desmond's story than I had with his ancestors'. I was really hoping that the entirety of Assassin's Creed III would take place in the present day with Desmond as a fully trained modern-day Assassin.
It was the opposite for me. I hated the breaks from the past to go back to Desmond. I thought it took away from what made the game really great. During AC3 I could care less about Desmond and what he was after. I havent played the new one yet so I dont even know if Desmond is still alive.
