I was able to swing by this place to see how far along they were and although they had a lit sign, the place is virtually gutted except for light fixtures and a permit hanging in the window.

I'm not sure if that area needs another Vietnamese place, but I wish them well. What could set them apart would be their hours. Just down the road you've got Maesone Noodle House with really good food, and then there's Blu Basil even closer with top notch everything. The problem with those places is that they close in the afternoon, which is usually when I get a hankering for noodles.

Also not too far away is Pho Saigon and Saigon Noodles, so that area is fairly saturated with the cuisine.

Zen is going to have a crappy location as well. That spot is really hard to get in and out of from Amb Caff, and no one even likes to drive that road. If you're coming from the North, you can't even make a left turn. Not sure what they're gonna draw from either. There are some businesses around there, but I don't see it as a Viet cuisine crowd. Gonna be interesting.

It's going to be tough in that location. I am a Saigon Noodles/Blu Basil fan, but Pho Saigon/Pho' Tastic are also VERY good. Two different owners but they deliver quality product at a very reasonable price. I have never been a fan of Maesone Noodle House, I've tried it several times and it seems to be Laotians dabbling in Viet/Thai food ??? May be Koreans, but I haven't cared for anything I ate the times I've been there.

So repeating myself again I will give a big to Tam Nguyen and Saigon Noodles / Blu Basil.

I'm with you. Everything that I've had at both places has been spot on, and I love the hot pot at Blu Basil.

The location of Zen is just enough closer to me to make me very happy. Maybe I can pick up pho to go on impulse.

The link to Zen led me to a link that says that Wok a Licious is now open. It's a Korean rice and noodle house.

Thank you. The only other place that I know of to get Korean is Osaka.

Speaking of new places in Laffy, Smash Burger has opened.

Are they any good? It takes me a lot for me to go out to a restaurant and order a burger.

Same here, so I haven't been. I know there are burger aficionados around here, though.

Smash burger opened about 2 months ago. The burgers are very good, and the fries are the shoe string type. Very good salads there too, which helps when the will power is running low to resist getting the juicy burger.

I appreciate the heads up on Zen. I hadn't noticed the new sign. Will check it out whenever it opens.
