Zatarain's and "Product of China"-What's the Deal?

I know McCormick owns Zatarain's, but I didn't know at least some of the products were products of China. I saw this photo on Facebook. Is this old news or new news? Only the dried herbs/vegetables?
I checked my crab boil and cayenne. Both of those are made in New Orleans according to the containers.

on a side note, dry herbs coming in from less than desirable countries is an interesting topic. plenty of things come in with feces and all sorts of gross crap in the bottles. ill try and find the article

Saw the same thing on facebook. Looks photoshopped. Weird either way (if it's true or if it's a goof/hoax) -- Why do either?

Apparently, it's not a false story. Here's a reply on the Zat's FB page about it.

Seems strange that green onions and dried bell pepper are the only two from China. I wonder about the reasoning for that.

Whether our ingredients are sourced in the United States or other parts of the world, we exercise the same high level of quality and control throughout our supply chain including adherence to rigorous specifications, audits, and testing. We have QA team members located in China overseeing our supply. Like · Reply · April 29 at 3:30pm

I don't think I can bring myself to read those articles. I think I'll take your word for it!
I just checked a few McCormick's seasonings. The minced garlic is a product of China.

Louisiana Fish Fry has its factory right here in Baton Rouge.

Hopefully, McCormick's doesn't purchase it, too. It's amazing how many companies are owned by McCormick's...Old Bay, Kitchen Basics, Zat's....

I never claimed otherwise. Just saying, they seem more "local."

Yep. If you dig deep enough we see that wee are eating from very few "sources."

Much of the whole head fresh garlic sold in US stores is imported from China.

Yeah! Chinese seasonings to go on my Chinese seafood

If your whole garlic still has the dried root ends still attached, it's domestic. If the root end has been cleaned off, it's foreign, likely Chinese. The root ends could contain foreign soil, so US Customs bans its import.

I don't think that theory held up in all situations according to what I read sometime last year when it appeared all over Facebook.
