The Hammond-born restaurant called Your Mom's Bar and Grill is heading to Baton Rouge, where a second location will open on W. Lee Drive. Owners hope to have it up and running by the first week of September.
Your Mom's is billed as an all-homemade establishment, with a focus on burgers.
"(Diners) can expect hand-pattied burgers, nothing frozen," said co-owner JP Ngo. "Everything we make is from scratch ... from hamburgers to dressings."
The Your Mom's menu also includes sandwiches, po boys and salads.
Ngo and his business partner, Trent Fresina, were both born in Baton Rouge and went to Catholic High School, and they're eager to return.
Their restaurant will take over the space long-ago vacated by DeAngelo's Pizzeria in the same shopping center as Winn-Dixie at the corner of Burbank and W. Lee drives. Construction on the space has already begun and should take a few weeks, Ngo said.
When it's all wrapped up, Your Mom's in Baton Rouge should accommodate about 100 to 120 guests.

Damn, thought Mom's Bar was finally expanding on their concept.

We like to grab burgers there if we are in Hammond with the kids. It's a nice low key spot with good food.

Edited, they have changed the policy

If their burgers are truly homemade and you're a paying customer, I don't see why they wouldn't allow a customer to request how they want their burger cooked to order.

How can any serious burger place do this?

I retract my previous statement, they have changed it to medium well.

Everyone in Hammond tells me they have the best burger in town now. However, curious to see how they will do from a business prospective in BR because the bar actually draws a large crowd as well with it being located in downtown Hammond.

I doubt it survives. Anything decent in a town like Hammond will flourish. A place would have to be exceptional to make it in that location.

In Hammond at night they pull all the tables to one side or something, turns into a full scale bar / club type atmosphere from what I saw.
Used to get lunch there, the jalapeno burger is great. Comes on a sourdough jalapeno bun, fricking tits.

I hope it works, but you're right, they're offering nothing new to the market. Just within that general area alone a person can grab burgers and/or po'poys at Fat Cow, Mike Anderson's, Walk On's, Marty J's, Burger Smith, Chimes, Acme, Barcadia, etc. Plus, it's in a very nondescript location. Even when I was at LSU and lived in the area I always seemed to forget about the Deangelo's that was there.

There was an earlier thread on here talking about this place if anyone wants more info. I hope they do well as I went to Catholic at the same time as Trent, but I have the same concerns that they don't bring anything new to the area. I wonder if they will try to be primarily a bar at night at this location as well, ala Mellow Mushroom.

Just from that list, the food at Your Mom's beats the hell out of Fat Cow, Mike Andersons, Burger Smith, Walk Ons, and Chimes. Have only had boiled crawfish from Marty J's and I am a big fan of Barcadia, but I will certainly be frequently hitting up Your Mom's. I went Saturday and loved it.
