This place was the bomb!!!!

$5 got you choice of one from each of the following:

A:
Smothered Fried Chicken
Smothered Pork Chops

B:
Rice and gravy
Mashed Potatoes and gravy
Red Beans & rice

C:
One of three veggies (I forget which)

For .50 cents more, you got a Coke poured out of a 2 liter.

Then she started doing lunch plates. I remember spaghetti on Wednesdays and Meatloaf on Thursdays.

It got to where you couldn't get in there.

She moved to Chime Street about 1998, but closed after that (retired or just closed down)

One of the BEST hidden secrets in BR!!!

When I was at LSU Silver Moon was on Chimes St. just around the corner from the Gatti's right next to the book store. Momma made the best smothered fried chicken I've ever had. My god it was good. Always had that back door open to air the place out. Sad when it closed.

In this thread like a mutha.

Can't tell you how many times I/we ate there.

Shallow ceiling, high humidity inside, Momma runs out of rice-sends son to da stoe to gits moe, errybody cool with waiting, cuz momma gonna fix you up right.

One of those special traditions that you hate to see die.

God Bless Momma "Sea Bell" Thomas -- thank you for feeding me so well for so long. You were the heart and soul of Baton Rouge, long before the big restaurants and the dreaded chains/franchises came in and took over.

Went all the time. Watched Southern, Avery Johnson was the point guard, almost beat Georgetown in the tournament. Big day around the Cafe.

I would go about twice a week. When she moved to chimes, I went less. But I think she stayed open for dinner. I had a tall boy with her once before closing. I miss that place.
