Going to be in the Lafayette area this week and looking for recommendations on the best place to stop for boudin, cracklin and other good things. I did a search of past threads and Best Stop, Billy's, Poche's, Johnson's Boucaniere, and Hebert's are all mentioned. Are any of these better than the others? Any suggestions on what to get from each place? Thanks for your help!

You will get as many opinions as options here. I have yet to find anything on your list offered in the Laffy area that isn't acceptable. If you were anywhere other than Lafayette, I'd be worried. But Lafayette has the cracklins/boudin/Cajun meat thing down to a science. Don't see how you can go wrong here.

I agree with these recommendations. Billeaud's cracklin has put a spell on me recently. I rub my teeth with the leftover cracklin dust at the bottom of my brown paper bag.

The best boudin I've had is from T-Boy's in Mamou if you care to make the drive. But all the Boudin in Lafayette/Scott is great. Like some of the other guys have said Billy's for the boudin balls. Hebert's has some good speciality meats (stuffed chicken, etc...).

Are the boudin balls from Billy's much better than the ones from Best Stop?

I'll have to stop next time I'm passing through. I've only stopped at both Don's and Best Stop so far.

Earl's on Verot has better stuffed chickens than Hebert's.

Agreed. And its easy to knock out Heberts/Nunus as they are close to each other and you can hit up Billys off the interstate leaving Lafayette.

I recently tried the boudin from Menard's in Duson and it is up there with the best I have ever had.

Not a fan of Billy's. Their cracklings are inconsistent. Last time they were so chewy or hard I had to spit some out.

And their boudin balls are too much batter for me.

I'd rather best stop

Agree with you on the boudin balls at Billy's. Tried their cracklins and was underwhelmed. But their smoked boudin is near the top of my list. And the boudin egg rolls with pepper jack cheese are killer when fresh. But my overall favorite for boudin and cracklins is still Billeaud's in Broussard.

Don's boudin is good but tends to pack a little more heat than most. If you like yours extra spicy, this is your place. Their cracklins are good too.
