I wish I had advice for you. I went to the LSU-UK game there in 2007. When checking in, we asked the hotel clerk for any good local suggestions. Her advice (in the thickest Kentucky accent you can possibly imagine): "If you go down this here road southbound for about a mile there's a real nice Olive Garden."

I'm sure there's something worth a damn, we just never found it over our four day trip.

Go to either one of the Malone's complexes. Malone's has great steaks. Both locations have a Harry's Pub attached to them which are great. Ther one in the Landsdowne Shops has an Italian place (Sal's) and one at the Hamburg Pavilion has a great sushi bar (Aqua). Can't go wrong at either.

For some local home-style cookin check out any of the Ramsey's diners. There's several around town.

There's a good breakfast place downtown called Alfafa's.

And definitely hit Graeter's icecream.

the previous poster had some solid recommendations; here are a few more places that we frequented when i lived in Lexington.

Near UK's campus:

Pazzo's is a solid, local pizza joint. awesome beer selection and a nice atmosphere for just hanging out.

Tolly Ho for cheap but good greasy spoon breakfast.

Bangkok House has really good Thai food. lady that runs the place nice super nice. use to eat there about once a week when i lived there.

Downtown:

Cheapside bar and grill has solid food and a great outdoor patio. If still on the menu, try the Duck Enchilada.

Alfalfa's is a local hippyish joint. lots of vegetarian and non-vegitarian options. probably the best weekend brunch in town. really simple but good, fresh, local ingredients.

Yes, we went for that game and came away thinking the same thing. However, you should ask where you can get a Hot Brown. Yes, it is real, and I loved it.

I found a pizza place downtown by the bars that was awesome, its called Good Fellas I think, might have been because i was drunk, but the pizza was some of the best i can remember having.

forgot about Atomic Cafe. awesome outdoor area.

Cheapside has a solid outdoor patio area; i've done a lot of drinking in their upstairs patio.
