What is your max time you will wait for a table?

We just left Sammy's (got there before the rush), the wait when we left was one hour.

If I'm eating with my family, 15-20 mins is max I will wait.

If it's just me and the MsAntique, one hour if we can sit at the bar, enjoy a drink. This is only at nicer restaurants.

Pretty much zero. If they have a bar I am willing to hang out there.

Mostly though, I'm not waiting.

Depends.

45 for a place that the wife is hot to go to.

Do you get mad when they have a wait but have a whole section with open tables?

Really depends on location, most places I use OpenTable, if I get there at my reservation time and I'm told there is a wait, I'll leave

No, because as a former restaurant manager, it is better to let a customer wait in the lobby than wait at a table.

I managed a fairly nice steak house in Atlanta 20 years ago. We had a rule that a table must be greeted within 2 minutes and served drinks within 5 minutes after that. The hostess had to know what was going on, not just sit people at any open table. A server shouldn't be sat more than one table within 10 minutes.

Diners sitting at a table not being greeted quickly was a No-No.

It depends on how nice the bar is. I will wait in a nice bar for up to an hour. But the wait has to be worth it such as at Galatoire's.

15-20 without a bar
25-30 with a bar

40-45 min wait- it better be a damn good restaurant with a bar that is worth waiting.

If it's a place worth waiting for, is a place worth making a reservation in advance or at least calling ahead to see if there's a wait. If it's a place that doesn't take reservations then it's not with waiting for.

Unfortunately my SO feels differently so the longest she and I will wait is 15 minutes.

Even though there is usually another place I can find without a wait, my time leaving and looking for that place is worth something, so I usually wait 20 minutes.

A lot of people don't realize this, but several factors could go into this. When I was waiting tables at a nice Steakhouse in college, we would go on a wait to allow the kitchen staff to keep their heads above water. Nobody likes to wait 45 minutes for their food to arrive after they order. Sometimes going on a wait with empty tables is necessary for everyone's benefit - including the guests'.
