My uncle invited me to what he called " A Summer Lunch " with the family. On the menu is Ham, okra and Tomatoes, purple hull peas with homemade chili sauce, hot water bread, cucumber/tomato salad, and watermelon for desert.

My grandma used to prepare a lot of these same things during the summer when I was young.

What foods do you consider Summer foods?

Something grilled with a side of some seasonal veggie (maybe grilled as well) and a tomato & cucumber salad. Paired with a cold beer of course. Bruschetta with grilled bread is one of my favorite summertime meals.

Also tend to eat more fish, shrimp, and crabs during summer. Anything with blueberries or a cold hunk of watermelon, cantaloupe or honeydew is summer to me.

Usually a salad with lots of grilled shrimp, or a bowl of creole tomatoes, remoulade dressing, and lump crabmeat. Any kind of vegetable medley with zucchini, squash, onion, garlic, and whatever sorts of seasoning you like. Chicken and beef dishes don't really excite me during the summer like seafood and fresh vegetables do.

A summer meal is lighter eating involving fruits and veggies of the season. Salads, salsas, or soups on their own or with another side dish.
