Some of you would definitely be in culture shock if you found yourself in West Texas, New Mexico, or Colorado and ordered green or red chili.

Chili goes great over a salad. Make sure the greens are crisp and fresh with lots of diced onion, tomatoes and some guacamole. Tortilla strips, too.

Cornbread, son.

There should be a more than ample amount of tomato product in a pot of chili that anymore is just so much overkill.

Cornbread, crackers, sour cream, cheese, rice.
I always serve my chili over rice with sour cream, cheese and crackers on the side.

jesus is anybody in this thread capable of reading the original question?!
he's not looking for accoutrements. he's looking for good sides to go with it. I'm pretty sure everybody in the modern world already knows to put fricking crackers and cheese with chili.

What goes well w/ a bowl of chili?
Chili usually stands on its own in my house.

Since Chili is just a TON of meat (and beans b/c I like them in my chili)...I feel like I need some veggies or fruits or maybe more starch to make it a more well-balanced meal.
Thank you for your suggestion of sliced tomatoes. I will grab some tonight.

I like Mexican cornbread with chili. Also like guac or avocado tossed with some fresh jalapeno and onion and a vinegary dressing, along with some lime. A Mexican slaw is good as well as fresh fruit with a little cilantro and jalapeno. No tomatoes for me with chili.
