A while back I got a couple of 40 lb cases of chicken thighs for REALLY cheap. Only problem was they were packed in 10 bags and frozen(not IQF). No problem chicken goes pretty quick here and couldn't pass up the deal.

No but if you could get 40 lbs of b/s chicken thighs for about thirteen bucks would you pass it up? I've cooked some and given some away or made a big pot of chicken fricassee and given some to my daughter and frozen some. Yes, buying 80 lbs of frozen chicken sounds crazy but it doesn't go to waste and I get to share. Hard to pass up a good deal.
Like the other day I went to Restaurant depot and they had 50 lb sacks of onions for $6.00 I got 6 lbs for that much a couple of weeks ago at the local supermarket. If I only use ten pounds it's still good. I'll probably give some away though. And yes, we do use a lot of onions here. Cook a lot! Oh and I have just cut some up and Foodsavered and frozen them. Lol........

Honestly, I Googled Berbere beef & mushroom recipes, read a few, and then sort of winged it with ingredients I had. Those ingredients were niter kibbeh, which is ghee under a different name, onions, garlic, mushrooms, red wine, beef, the seasoning, plus salt. I could've used more of the seasoning, but some recipes warned that it is really hot. I added more, several times. Sorry for not always being a recipe follower. Tomatoes were a part of lots of recipes, but I didn't want to use any.

MD: No, but I cry myself to sleep many nights.

Nice! I wouldn't buy 40lbs of chicken per say, but I totally see why you'd buy in bulk. Wasn't trying to imply it was silly, I was just curious cuz it looked like a lot of food!

Good luck with those onions
I could definitely go through a case of onions or potatoes and justify buying it in bulk. I dunno how long it would take me though ... I'd probably chop and freeze a good bit.
