Washing Crawfish

Having a crawfish boil this weekend. We usually buy them already washed, but this time they won't be. My husband says you can just run the hose over the sack for a while, but I say you have to dump them in an ice chest to fully clean then. What say the food experts? Is my husband full of shite?

salt does nothing but kill them if they are already weak. As listed above wash until water is clear.

Husband is right. No need to 'purge'

I'm not talking about purging. He says that you can CLEAN them while they are still in the sack by just running a bunch of water over the sack. I say they have to come out of the sack to wash them.

It can be done either way. In the sack or out. You are both right.

I've found out if the sack is better. If they are dirty, then a lot of the mud/dirt is under the tails. When they are able to swim around it gets a lot of this out. Not possible if they're unable to move in a sack.

out of the sack is better for many reasons

this is the answer. Wash until the water runs clear, typically takes 3-4 cycles. not long and easy to do

Where did you get crawfish 2/3rds thru June?

Do they charge you for the washing? Do they come out nice and gritty?
I put them in an ice chest. Fill the ice chest with water. Slosh them around. Drain after 5 minutes. I keep doing that until the water is clear.
