My folks said the pizza at nicks was delicious.

Personally, I'd drive to the steamboat in Washington. 15-20 min ride (depending on how many dragass's you get stuck behind on 167) for a quality meal.

Verlin used to flip hamburgers on the grill and scratch his back with the same spatula and not miss a beat. Those were great days!!!!! It's a shame to see a "For Sale" sign on the place. Only asking $500,000 or so. Should be plenty of potential for sales.

Jungles been gone a while. Something else opened in its spot but I don't think it did well, It may even be closed already.

Are we talking about Verlin? (I think that's how he spelled his name. Pardon if incorrect.)

no, old man veddder = my dad...he flipped burgers there as a teenagers, a looooong, loooong time ago. i was just joking about him yelling at people. but not about him being grumpy. passed away three years ago this summer. he moved out of VP as a young adult in the early 70s. went back often to visit family, which is how i got acquainted with the pig stand. hate to hear that it shut down. sad.

Pig Stand was an institution...my buds spoke
well of it. I was lucky enough to have VP and the surrounding area as an adopted home base , other than BR, when I moved to La.

Couple of people had a go at it but the owners of the Cajun Smokehouse moved their operations there & it is doing very well, lunch buffet & dinner service.

The Jungle burned down recently. It wasn't doing well.

To any of you coming through this area, the best boudin in the world is a half mile from my home at T-Boys Slaughterhouse and Grocery. Good friend and a nice guy, he recently won the boudin competition in Lafayette.

Teet's in VP is good, K&B Grocery where Lincoln Road hits the road to Chicot Park has good boudin and great cracklins.

As far as restaurants, the Steamboat is the place to go for great seafood.

Other good places along Hwy 190 for boudin are Billy's and Ray's in Opelousas for boudin balls, Karchners in Krotz has good boudin and excellent cracklins.

I think the rendezvous, formally the jungle actually burnt down a few weeks ago. I would go to the steamboat for a great sit down dinner meal.

P.s. flat town tiger, this is CM from Ville Platte. I was granted a name change on here.

Wander a little farther south and try Josephine's in Sunset. Food there is always solid.
