I drove by the site today on Old Hammond and jefferson. It looks like they have poorer the concrete for a pool in the parking lot? Anyone know anything about this or been to the location in Lakeview?

I didn't know they were expanding.

Beautiful location, lots of girls, nice setup.

DOGSHIT food. The absolute worst mexican you can possibly imagine. It is pretty much universally recognized as a good place to go to hang out, but the food is 100% garbage.

Agree. Great drinks, great atmosphere. Legit mediocre food.

I agree with the others about the N.O. location, but what the hell is this supposed to mean?

I didn't want to go past that because I had an OK quesadilla there once. But otherwise, yea.

But their margaritas are quite good

They fricked up and gave me a Skinny Girl Margarita one time and I almost vomited.

But after that they haven't been bad. The drinks work and its such a nice atmosphere. Shame about the food. I'm not a big margarita drinker, would rather just beer or whiskey or rum.

They have spent a ton of money on that location from the purchase price, the demolition of the building and all the site paving to the new building.

Never will be able to recoup that return on investment. It won't last 5 years.

It sure seems like they can make it work. They have to be printing $$$ in lakeview.

Generally speaking, with Mexican places, you can have good margaritas or good food, but not both.

Velvet Cactus - at least the NOLA one - is a shining example of the former.

Place is always crazy packed. Food is average even by NOLA mexican standards. Nice drinks, nice scenery. Good "place to be seen" which works well in that neighborhood.

What Martini said. That's some expensive real estate to pay for with supposedly crappy Mexican food.

The follow the Rumhouse model: its all about the drinks and atmosphere. Drinks are where the money is.

Velvet Cactus is so bad it could earn Rumhouse a James Beard award by comparison.

Sorry, it looks like the have poured the concrete for a pool in the front of the building.

The building is in an L shape, with a zippys like garage door set up extending toward the road. I think parking is supposed to be in the rear. Anyone that lives over there, drive by, take a look and report back.

If the location is decent, I suspect it will have similar success as Rum House. Each having similar quality food.

I have not understood the love for Rum House tacos. They aren't bad but are far from great and even farther from being worth the price.

Scenery is nice though.
