Valentine's Day dinner reservations

I was looking at a calendar yesterday and saw that Valentine's Day is on a Saturday this year, so I decided to go online to make dinner reservations. Every year, my wife and I go Fleming's. I went online to get reservations and they only had two left for 9pm and 10 pm. What the hell. VD is a month away and I thought I was early. So I went to Galatoire's website and made reservations for 7pm. This will be my first time going there. What's good?

I love the oysters rock at Galatoire's. I could eat them over and over again. If they have a soft shell crab dish, that's good. I like the traditional fish amandine and meuniere dishes, the souffled potatoes, fried eggplant...I've never had anything I haven't enjoyed.

This sounds good.

My wife will probably get this. She's a vegan.

We were there last Friday for lunch.
We did the traditional sweet potato/fried eggplant app and then the seafood app which was a combo of fried oysters, crab salad and shrimp and then a few rounds of oysters rockefeller. The only thing that I thought was really good were the fried oysters, everything else was fine but nothing that stood out too much. I think I had a duck gumbo after that which was pretty good. Experience was great tho, I will say that.

First time going to Galatoire's, I definitely recommend going with one of their best:
Grilled Pompano in brown butter with crab meat on top. If they have pompano.

I don't believe the sauce is vegan. Souffled potatoes are delish, but that sauce isn't vegan either.

As is the case every year, I'm sure others will say the same I will say: Don't go to dinner on Valentine's Day.
That said, if Galatoire's treats V-Day the same as a lot of other places, it will be a prix fixe menu, so no point in asking us Although they will likely have their most popular items on it.
The sweet potato souffle and fried eggplant appetizers are what they're probably most known for.
Fantastic.
Wait. You make her go to Flemings on Valentine's Day and she's a vegan?
Damn.
I'd definitely check the menu closely at Galatoire's because seafood and cheese and dairy and butter are involved in the preparation of anything and everything I can think of there..

The eggplant likely uses an egg wash to batter as I think about it.

Probably. Or milk will be involved.
Maybe he just means she's a vegetarian? My friend is vegan, and the only option at places like that is a green salad because a French restaurant will include butter anywhere they can.

Most overlooked dish there is the lamb chops. They are great.

Going to be damn near impossible to go vegan at Galatoire's.
There are a few Vegan restaurants in NOLA now.
I have never been because frick that noise.

Yes, he should read the menu carefully, because I don't know many things a vegan can order at Galatoire's. I'm sure there are a few, but a plain salad is so boring.
A "farm to table" type place might be better. If by some miracle, Nino's has an opening, that might be a good option. You can call the chef there when you make the reservation and create a meal for her. Probably adds a bit to the cost, but for V Day, it should be worth it, plus it's cozy and romantic.

She doesnt mind. She usually eats a salad and a side. Oh and about 4 lemon drops.

I was thinking the same thing. Poor woman is probably so sick of salads.
Only other thing I think would work there is one of the fried/sauteed potato side dishes, but you'd have to ask that they be done in oil instead of butter.

The sides at Galatoire's, unfortunately for her, are all "creamed this" and "bearnaise that". Except maybe some potatoes.
But if she doesn't mind/doesn't eat much, you should definitely get the souflee potatoes and eggplant and pompano if offered. Like GG said, the meuniere and almondine dishes are good too.

I would have never thought of this, and this is probably the best recommendation you can possibly make since they are known to tailor the menu for you. Being such a small place with a flexible menu, you won't have to worry about someone getting lost in the VDay weeds and forgetting to keep the dish vegan.
And she would be able to eat an actual plate of food, rather than leaves or a side.

You would definitely be better off at some more modern or farm to table places than Galatoires.
Most of those type of places have vegetarian/vegan options in abundance.

They already do this at pretty much every place we go. She tells the waiter she's a vegan and they offer to whip her up something.

You might call Galatoire's then and inquire as to what vegan options they're able to provide.
At Nino's they will plan a meal ahead of time. They are small, but they probably have enough on hand to make something at the spur of the moment, normally. I would give them the courtesy of a heads up for V Day, though. I would do that with any restaurant on one of the busiest dining nights of the year.
